Ported box for earthquake subs
Ported box for earthquake subs
Hi, i have a pair of earthquake dbx10 subs, i plan to make a ported box for these subs.
The manufacturers specs say to make it around 1- 1.25 cuft @ like 44 hz tuning for "deep base" .
Cant help thinking that i would be better served building it around 1.25 cuft@ 34-38 hz. What do u guys think? Im looking for mainly good sound and not over the top spl.
The box will be going into a 94 bubbleback civic so im wondering how to face subs/ports as well. T.I.A
specs i have.
fs 28hz
qes 0.497
qms 8.458
qts 0.52
xmax 3" / 76.2 mm
eff 85 db spl
revc 5.2 ohm
bl 17.6tm
vas 21.9 l / .773 ft3
imp 4 ohm
power 300 wrms

Well, if you are running close to the recommended power handling, I would stick with the manufacter's specs. Their R&D is solid, so I trust their judgement. If you are feeding them more power than what they are rated, I could see your point in giving it the higher volume and lower tuning.
Ya, im running the 2 of em with a mtx mxa6001, i just figure that earthquakes specs are more focused on spl. Im thinking i would get better sound quality with lower tuning, not worried about losing a bit of spl.
Just wanna tune it properly.
Well, i am gonna whip up a box today. I am gonna use 2" pvc for the ports since i have it layin around.
Im gonna try 1.25 persub after displacement, 2 ports per chamber/sub @ 9" a peice should be 36 hz roughly.

Well, i made the box today. I had alot of pvc pipe so i started off with 1.25 cuft and i cut 2 2" ports at 6" long, tuning to 44hz roughly. Then i romoved ports and put in the 9" ones, Much better sound at 36 hz like i suspected. Thatks jalat, you were right on ur advice! These subs actually sound really good to my ear, pound hard too!
