Post Ported Box Tuning Frequency

Can someone explain to me how to choose what frequency I should tune my ported box to. Does it depend on the type of music I listen to? Is is just personal preference?

Thanks,

Fishbone I think you might want to mention what kind of equipment you're gonna be putting in the box. (If its not in your signature)

Okay...if it matters, it will be two Image Dynamics IDQ 12 V.2s...each one in a separate enclosure.

Thanks again.

Porting low can extend low frequency response of the woofer and move group delay down where it wont be as pronounced... porting high will probably increase overall SPL...

When I met you a few monthes ago you seemed to be all about SQ. Knowing that Id recommend porting low (like 20-25hz) or going sealed. Id also aim for a QTC around .7 which is generally recommended for a mix of spl and accuracy.

Thanks Haunz...

I am looking for a happy medium between SPL and sound quality. I also want it to go low. I'm not worried about squeezing every last decibel out of the system. I have lots of amp power, so that should help.

BTW, I don't believe we have ever met.

Oh ya...sorry man...I must be working too hard...

Image Dynammics is recommending that I tune the box anywhere from 28 to 30 HZ...I think I will go with 28.
