Thumbs up

Unless dealing with a driver that simply WON'T perform in a vented box, always vented.

Yeah I had to reply twice

Definetly ported for me, another factor to consider into this is amplifier power.

IMO you can't ignore the application. They both have pros and cons but typically it's the application that determines the enclosure for optimum performance. I may like vented enclosures better (and I do) but if the best enclosure for the application is sealed then that's what I'm going with. When you get down to it, I prefer a 4th order BP. (I can hear the groans now)

^ If there is room, I prefer a bandpass as well.

What exactly would be the application then? I mean my friend has a hatchback nova with 3 10s in a sealed box, I have a deville (trunk) with 2 ported 12s and my friend has a bronco with 2 12's sealed, my friend has 1 12 ported is his truck

neither here nor there have I noticed much difference, or maybe I dont know how to? I know sealed subs produce more excursion than ported. =\

care to explain?

^^I can only give my personal situation. In my case I needed as much space as possible in my trunk, but I wanted 15" subs...I like the sound. unfortunately, there was no way to fit even one 15 in there with a proper box, sealed or ported without a lot of custom work(there is a height restriction). I then decided to use 2x12's...I like 12's also, but a ported application required too much space. I decided to go sealed, and I'm very happy with it...even though I know it could be louder. It's plenty loud and very tight...no regrets. However, the next system is 15's, no matter what i have to do!!! Anyway, that's an application example based on my needs, physical limits, and type of sound preferred, as well as personal preference( I like two subs instead of only one...I know one can be louder and sound just as good...but I like two).
