Small box for 05 RE XXX 12"

I've got a Sunfire with a small trunk. I want to seal it to save space, but I don't know if I should make one myself or buy one from a dealer. They'll probably be around $70 @ East Hamilton Radio. How small of a ported box could I go with? Would it be shittier because of small air space, rather than just going sealed? My old box was 2 cuft, and is too much! Thanks!

I want to build my own sealed box. I'll get measurements tomorrow, and hopefully someone can show me how to make it. What thickness and what wood do I need? Can someone give me a design? Also, what do you use to brace it? Can someone tell me what kind of tuning I'd have for 1 and 1.25 cuft?

Here's some specs on my woofer.

Sd: 480 sq cm (74.40 sq in)
Re: 1.0 ohm
Vas: 31.61 l (1.12 cuft)
Mms: 218.43 g
Qms: 5.19
Fs: 34.4hz
Qes: .49
Bl: 10.62 Tm
Qts: .45
Xmax: 33 mm
Efficiency: .25% ( 86db @ 1w/1m)

Use 3/4 MDF for the wood. Make sure you don't let it get wet. Get some good glue as it is what will hold the box together. Use at least a 1.5" screw and make sure to drill pilot holes or you risk splitting the wood. Use a screw every 6" or so along the seams just to hold the wood in place while the glue dries (the glue will create a much stronger bond than the screws). I like to just use extra pieces of MDF to brace my enclosures. Also pick up some cheap sealant (silicon caulking) to truly seal up the inside along the seams.

Tuning only applies to ported enclosures. The boxes tuning frequency will depend on a number of variables: the internal volume, the port size or cross area, and the length of the port. Try messing around with this program to get an idea of how tuning works. Also you can check out this program to get some simple ported box plans if you choose to go that route.

1.56 cuft, 15 high, 18 long, 10 deep. Fits great. Double baffle with bracing.
