Try and stay away from equipment that the masses and/or people from the site have not used or heard of much. If its cheap its most likely CHEAP :) The Infinity and JBL have always been very nice solid products. Dont forget to set aside $150-250 for install wiring and dash kits and so on and a bunch of the money will be obviously get used on taxes. Now when stuff is on sale at the Big Box stores its hard to beat but if they dont have what you want a smaller indipendent like Rob at Forbiden or myself or a local shop can sometimes put complete system package together that can also save a ton. Many guys worry about this model or that model or feature... remember balance -- it makes no sense to get an awesome sub and a crappy amp... or a real cool deck and cheap speakers or component speakers but no amp....

PS: never buy from a guy in a tie... he'll sell you what he has to as opposed to selling you what you need...

anyway....i was looking to get a nice box built for a JBL P1024 10", let me know what you can do for me and what the $$ is for that...im not sure if im gonna go sealed or ported, custom ported box makes alot more sense but let me know what u think

Okay here is my 0.02.

I will not suggest what brand of equipment you should get but I will make a suggestion on setup. The gear you will need is a head unit, instead of getting 2 sets of coaxial speakers spend the money you had set aside for rear speakers on getting a set of components for the front and leave the rears, a 4 channel amp(something with some half decent power like 80x4rms) single 12" sub appx. 200wrms, and a ported enclosure.

With this equipment you can amplify the components with the front 2 channels of the amp, run the stock rears off the deck(which will be more then enough rear fill) or just disconnect them all together. Take the rear channels of the amp and bridge them into the sub. I say a single woofer so it is not underpowered, and ported so it is a little more efficent.

The setup above will keep you under that $1500 mark. This setup works real well. In my Maxima I have a DB Drive SP 80.4 amp, Orion XTR 6.5 mids that I bought in 1999, tweeters that I found sitting around the shop(fusion I think) and a Blaupunkt Overdrive 12" in a prefab ported box, and it sounds great.

^^I'm sure it does... for those in the front. If you don't have passengers in the rear, or they don't care, then it's a great idea. If you do have them regularly, then you need decent sound back there, or they will ask you to turn the stereo off...and then you'll have to listen to them yakking!!
