Post $700-$1000 To Spend Looking For Suggestions

Hi guys i have been viewing this site for the last few days for information before i decided to register. Like most newbie's i am looking for a few suggestions as i am interested in upgrading my car audio system.

I have seen this question been asked many times viewing the site and one of the most popular responses is to give more information.

Vehicle - 1995 Volkswagen Golf CL

Price Range - $700 - $1000

SPL/SQ Ratio - 70-30 Looking for much more SPL then SQ

Competitions - No - I am not intersted in entering any competitions just looking for a decent system.

Music Tastes : Rock/Rap.

Items Already Purchased : JBL P80.4 360-Watt 4-Channel Power Amplifier

Specifications :

Output 4 Ohms 40W x 4
Output 2 Ohms 80W x 4
Output 4 Ohms Bridged 160W x 2

Items Needed : 1 Subwoofer, 1 Amp, 2 Tweeters, 6 Midrange Speakers, 1 CD/MP3 Player.

Style : I am not interested in any items that have fancy lights or flashy gismos on them i am much more interested in performance.

My current stock midrange speakers are damaged and need replaced. Do you suggest to replace all 6 of them including the 2 tweeters? (6 aftermarket midrange speakers plus 2 tweeters seems like overkill) I plan on running my JBL amp for the midrange speakers and my deck for the dash mids.

I bought the car it already came with a extremely crappy subwoofer amp and a 10 inch garbage subwoofer. I have no idea how my 6 midrange speakers plus 2 tweeters are currently powered. My car also came with a crossover i cant recall the brand name.

Keep in mind the maximum $1000 price tag needs to included a subwoofer box and i am still unsure if i will take it to a car audio shop for a professional install as i know someone who has experience with installs.

The same person who has had a few years with installing systems here and there also owns a workshop so to cut down costs the box could be assembled for much less then buying one. The last note i would like to make is the CD/MP3 Player doesn't have to be anything fancy just something to do the job.

Last Questions :

1. Do i need to upgrade my stock alternator?
2. Do i need to upgrade my stock battery?
3. Do i need a capacitor?
4. Hardware i missed that i need to complete my system?

If so suggestions please.

I know very little about brands one name that keeps showing up around here is DD subwoofers but with all the items i need to complete my system perhaps this single item will be too high in cost not to mention the serious amplifier it needs.

Thank you for your time.

use the 4 channel to power your speakers, do a 6" component set up front and a 6" coax in the rear, that will help keep within your budget. you could get a matchin jbl mono block to power a sub, but thing for a sub tho is go listen to some and see what you like best, same with the speakers. you shouldnt have to upgrade your alternator, a new battery never hurts a deep cycle is a good idea. also upgrade your stock power an grounds on the car (big 3 upgrade) that will help out aswell. have fun.

1. Do i need to upgrade my stock alternator? Not at this time.
2. Do i need to upgrade my stock battery? Wait and see.
3. Do i need a capacitor? Nope.
4. Hardware i missed that i need to complete my system? Proper wiring, sound deadener, proper and thorough installation.

DD has some great subs, your assumption however given your budget is correct, it, coupled with the proper amp needed for your goals is going to kill your budget. So we need to either encrease the budget or decrease the sub and amp. As you have made it plain as day your budget and goals, take it a step at a time. I would go with one of your suggestions, that is to eliminate the rear speakers at this time as they can always be added at a later date. Concentrate on the more important front speakers for now. As your budget probably includes taxes, at the limits this is then about $877.00.

I would probably build around a Pioneer cd player, Pioneer Premiere 12" sub, Pioneer mono sub amp and either a set of JBL or MB Quart 6.5" component speakers. I'll work on a quote for you and PM you in the afternoon.

Thank you all for the replies.

"for a sub though is go listen to some and see what you like best, same with the speakers"

I have not listened to a system in a long time.

Subwoofers i have listened to in person :

Two 12 inch MTX Blue Thunders.
Two 15 inch PG.
Two 10 inch JL W0's. (i think)
Four 10 inch Rockford's.
Four 12 inch Rockwood's.

This was many years ago.

"any where in Bc are u , please give us more details"

I am from the lower mainland near vancouver.

"So we need to either encrease the budget or decrease the sub and amp. As you have made it plain as day your budget and goals, take it a step at a time."

$1000 is really all i wish to spend i suppose if i could get a noticeable gain if i was willing to expand that to 1100 or 1200 i would most likely do so.

Try an Eclipse Deck,

You can get really nice sound out of them as well as eath shatering volume. try (for budget purposes) a cda 1000 or cda2000. They have awesome mp3/wma capabities. However the CDA1000 is not Ipod or XM ready.
Im running a CDA1000 with a JL10w1 and it rocks. NIce clean htis but just turn it up and it pounds! you can get them for about 150 or 300 in a box.
