Alright, first of all i am not a noob but i havent been able to get a straight answer on this question. I am building a new system and i want to do it right.

I was wondering if i was to take 1 12" sub with an RMS rating of say 750w or 1200w and give it the rated RMS and run it in a ported box, would it be as loud or louder than say 2 Alpine Type R's given their rated 300w RMS each???

In simple terms is 1 huge wattage, high end sub better than 2 smaller wattage subs??? I understand that 2 subs will have more surface area, but most high end subs have enough X-max to move the same air as lower end subs like Alpines.

Personally.. I'd either do a Kicker L7 which can be bought at your local kicker store.. or the atomic quantum which can be found at genuinecanadianaudio.. those are my 2 favourite subs right now

Throw specs out the window.. X-max will not determine how loud the sub gets or how much air it moves.. the biggest thing will be the box.. make sure you get a good one!

I completely disagree. Why do you think the Brahma gets so loud?? because it moves more air than most subs. Box is very important yes but so is the X-max, linear displacement, etc. Specs never get thrown out the window.

PS: A Brahma will embarass an L7.(even though i am looking at both of them)

So based on your genius, Strokers aren't loud.
xmax = 11.5mm on the 15"

Strokers are loud but where the hell did they come into this discussion??? . If you are asking me anything about Strokers i wouldn't know. If their X-max is only 11.5 for the 15" they could be a helluva lot louder if they had a bigger x-max. Even the new MTX 9500 series has 27mm of X-max. Strokers are loud, just old. no new technology.

Well not to be a ***** but I have totally different opinions.. I don't think Brahma's get that loud at all.. well how many cars with them were winning at world finals? How many with L7's? Box is WAY more important than any specs.. Work on the box.. don't worry about specs..

It is really hard to predict which would sound better/louder until you try it

In theory , if both speakers are close with their specs other than their rms rating ,the output should be close to the same.

Each time you double the amount of speakers you gain 6db

Each time you double power you gain 3db.

Strokers have very little x-max and yet they were and still are one of the best subs for spl available, he was proving a point that specs don't mean anything..

L7's were embarrassed at the finals. They got stomped by Team RF in every way. true there were no Brahma's but they don't even have a demo car let alone anyone competeing with them. The L7 is a good sub as i said, for a daily driver. So is the Brahma but i have seen the L7 in many applications and the Brahma is far louder. It IS all in the install, but without the specs the install would be sh*t. How do you build a box without specs?? I am going to find the best sub with the best specs and then build the best box for that sub. Thats how things work when u go by specs.
