1 12" sub with high RMS ratings or 2 subs with lesser ratings???
if you don't understand how the mechanics of a sub works, you can't get the sub to perform to it's potential. Thats all i am saying. The other thing when comparing subs is to make sure they are in the most comparable state (eg: boxes, amps, ohms, etc. I know the L7 gets loud (and far more affordably than the Brahma i will admit that) but i need to know if 1 bigger wattage sub like an L7 for example will out do to smaller wattage subs like Type R's?

The L7 is a good sub as i said, for a daily driver. So is the Brahma but i have seen the L7 in many applications and the Brahma is far louder. It IS all in the install, but without the specs the install would be sh*t. How do you build a box without specs?? I am going to find the best sub with the best specs and then build the best box for that sub. Thats how things work when u go by specs.

The L7's ARE cheaper but i was comparing the SOLO X to the Team RF and IT was embarrassed. The other point is that I never saw an L7 win an SQ comp and if it did thats a sad thing. But i never said X-max was related to box making. I use the specs to help me decide on what sub to purchase and then the recommended box siz to build the box. If you didn't use specs to build your box you most likely just buil a great big ported box like most Comp guys do. do you want a f*ckin hero cookie?? If you don't use specs when building your box, you can't tune it properly so why don't you just admit specs and boxes go hand in hand??? You need specs to tune so your sub plays the right frequency.
As for the Brahma i have heard 2 Brahma 15's go head to head with 2 L7 15's and the L7's sounded nice, but did NOT reach higher db's than the Brahma's. THEY CAN'T!!!! Unless the guy did a poor install on the Brahma's they won't lose to the L7.

no i dont want a cookie.. but the subs got loud and sounded very good.. and the box wasn't that big.. It's funny because people running L7's were winning at iasca finals for several years in a row.. I guess then American bass also embarassed every sub in the world ever made because with 1 sub team suprerior sounds is the loudest car in the world.. realistically its because of the box.. what does specs on the subs have to do with tuning the box?? Maybe the L7's you heard were either in a sealed box, or werent given the same power, or were in a bad box.. L7's could easily keep up to the Brahmas. Bottom line there are many subs out there.. none should be considered better than another.. each will be good in thier own application..
btw.. not to be an *** but you are new to the forum (and looks like to car audio as well).. it's usually not a good idea to ask for help then bitch when you dont like the answer you hear..

Hey man, i am new to this forum yes, but not to car audio. I just actually found this forum today. I don't mean to B*tch about your answer. I actually agree with you that the L7 is a great choice and would suit my application. I also agree that boxes have alot to do with how a system sounds. I just disagree with throwing specs out the window completely. There are certain specs that need consideration, especially if you compare subs.
As for the L7's i heard they were a professional job done by a guy with alot of experience. They did "keep up" as you put it, but the Brahma's proved to be just too much. I dont blame the L7, because it doesn't even handle the same RMS power the Brahma does and it doesn't have the X-max or move the same amount of air. It kept up, which was great for a sub that had all those factors mixed in. But the Brahmas handled more power and were being powered by 2 Hifonics Brutus 1500w RMS amps. the L7's wer powered by 2 JBL 1200.1's.
Maybe we got off on the wrong foot, and if i seemed like i was dissing your setup, i apologize. I will admit the L7 is a formidable sub but i have never heard it mentioned in the top 3 subs on the market thats all. i would say top 4 or 5 myself. But if you were offended, that was my bad.

At a comp in Calgary we beat a car with 2 15 L7 and a JBL 1200.1 on each. what were we running? A single MTX T81244A off a Rockford bd500. Does that mean that the MTX is twice as good as the Kickr? No it means we had a clue and the other guy didn't. It's great to use personal experience to base decisions. Just make sure the subs were used in the proper application before using that data in a decision. FYI two of the best sounding cars in the world use JBL subs, yet they are almost never brought up in any conversation.

It seems with the advent of the internet, people would rather take chances with unproven stuff than use equipment from established companies. It doesn't get more established than JBL. Something (a huge amount of orange shirts at finals) tells me JBL will be a major player in all forms of autosound competition next year

I have a feeling in the future we will see alot more people running JBL.. they are beefing thier team up
To answer the ORIGIONAL Question-
Assume all drivers have the same 1 watt efficiency, assume all are in the correct size box ported the correct way, assume close coupling of the 2 woofers (my dad taught me that) the 2 (10"?) smallers woofers should dust the bigger (12") woofer. I base this on surface area of the cones and total excursion shouldnt swing this one the other way.
