1 or 2 Subs?
1 or 2 Subs?
Just looking for an opinion..Just wondering what you guys think. Im not looking to create a show car, just a better sound for my car. Of course im not satisfied with the base that my speakers produce so Im looking to invest in a sub system in the next month or so.
I dont need it to be deafeningly loud, but I dont want it to be crappy either. I listen to alot of rap and some harder rock. Why would I get a 2 sub system as opposed to a 1 sub system.
Do I really need it if Im just looking for some good base..and not a crazy loud system? I mean I want it to pound, but I dont want it to pound my hearing away :P

every added speaker is a 3db increase to a certin point
doubling power is a 3db increase to a point
i would say go with a single 12. it will rumble hard and will have nice sound quality to it. and plus it wont be extreamily overpowering to other soounds. ie the high tones will not be drowned out. i would say for ehat yo are looking for maby a 1000W max sub with a 11-1200 W amp to power it.

sound quality wise it does not matter, it all depends on what you want, space available, power available, money available, etc....Given the same model sub, properly powered, installed, etc....2x10s will give more output than 1x12, 2x12's will give more than 1x15, but you may not need as much space for 1 larger sub, or as much power to get close to the same output of 2 smaller ones. One sub and a smaller amp is cheaper than 2subs and a larger amp. In my case, I wanted a single 15, but could not fit it the way I wanted, so i went for 2x12's.
I'm a big fan of single sub setups. Dual looks cool, but I think that given equal money (ex 500 for 1 sub vs 250 each for 2) you can get a really nice sub or even just try to save some money for a better amp. A lot of people on other forums seem to be big fans of the single 15 setup, which I think I'm going to try in my car.

Subs put a certain volume of air for their size. You can push a lot more air with 2 subs than 1.
It will come down to what you like. you know what opinions are like? Everybodys got one.

If you're expense contientious, just go with one sub @ about 1000 watts RMS ...That should be loud enough to taste...
PS dont cheap out on sound deadner. I cannot emphasize how fundamental it is and how often it's an oversight...

Im actually going to look at someones Infinity Kappas 12.1s today..If everything checks out i may purchase them. I wont have an amp...I have the money but I dont feel like being broke. For future refrence..what amp should I go with? Like I said im not looking for deafening power..
