Are 15" subs still generally used in a setup?

15" subs are EVERYWHERE! I threw a kicker compVR in a 3.5 cuft sealed & holey box in an old buick trunk and it got reaaaallly low and loud enough. If the box was properly sealed I'd still be using it but it was a cupboard with a peice of wood over it LOL. I switched to a 2 cuft sealed box and it sucked. Didn't get low or loud. I also used 2 12's sealed on 750W and it wasn't as loud as the 15 in the larger box. I'd say either use 2 10's ported or 1 15" sealed in a large box. Same power. Try a compVR on 500W or a Q on 1000W. To be honest there isn't a hole lotta difference between 500-1500W. Not that I noticed anyways.

15's are for vans other then that there a waist of space.

I love 15's. Often times a single 15 can be done in a box the same size, if not smaller, than 2 12's. Problem is they are hard to fit in smaller vehicles (usually due to height or depth of the box). I still miss my van with 2 15L5's

It all depends with your system goals, budget, and space.

I love my 15s, I have used more 15s then 10s or 12s now.
