(2) MTX 300W subs + RF P325.1?

Hi, couple questions....

I picked up the RF P325.1 amp a couple weeks ago and was planning to match it with (2) RF P2D210 (250W RMS 2ohm DVC) wired @ 2ohm to the amp. After much consideration, I found this to be THE perfect match. However, recent boxing day blitz @ Futureshop lead me to buy (2) MTX MZS1004 (300W RMS 4ohm SVC) along with a killer Bassworx's dual ported box. Who could resist 2 subs for $99.99!!!!

Anyway, the birth sheet on the Rockford shows the amp actual rating 406W RMS x 1, which BTW, I'm very pleased with the over rating of 20+%

Question: Am I running ANY risk to the amp or subs underpowering them by almost 200W? I've been told it will be fine as long as I don't crank the gain on the amp. I know how to set the gain using a multimeter and measuring the volts per RMS/OHMS but since I am using higher RMS subs I want to make sure I can set the gain the same way. Should I be adjusting it to the watts/ohms of the amp 400 @ 2ohms, which says to adjust gain to 28.28 V or should I adjust it to reflect the watts of the subs 600 @ 2 ohms, which is 34.64 volts? I'm going by values in Sparky's Audio System Survival Guide....

Any help appreciated!

I think, by myself, for practical use, is better to adjust, using your ear.

-use a 50 hz tone
-put your gain almost at 0
-increase the volume on your deck to 3/4
-go to the amp and begin to increase your gain,
-you will listen the distortion in one point.
- try and try and try, you can leave a bit of distortion, but be careful.
-in this point you can even see the over excursion in the speaker.

This is the way I have in doing this for 7 years. I only use the multimeter, when I have to match to amps, to the same woofer. but first I adjust one using this metod.

Thanks for the reply. Being my first ever install, I am trying to plan everything 100%. Perhaps I am overthinking...

My concern with the gain is obviously running 600W load on a 400W amp or I wouldn't have to be as exact. I want the most out of the subs without doing any damage obviously.

With this amp being mono and 2 speaker output, does this mean I _dont_ have to wire them parallel at the box? My understanding is that I just connect a sub to each output and the amp will recognize a 2ohm load?

Thanks again.

That would be right. It's a mono amp, so even it has a two speaker output, the two sets of terminals are common anyhow. And yes that would be a 2ohm load with subs that you have. You are not going to hurt anything with the way that you have it, crank it and enjoy.

Cool. Thanks

I didn't realize how much work this is to install. I'm still figuring out how to mount the amp(s) sub box, etc, etc... all the work and $$ I'm putting into this I may just stop paying rent when everything is setup and live out of my car.
