2 sub system vs 4 sub system

can somebody tell me the pros and cons from upgrading from a 2 10inch alpine type r system to a 4 10 inch system with the same subs? im worried the vocals wont match the bass because i unfortunatly only have alpine type S speakers in the car.

more bass probably. you might have to do some electrical upgrades, and will probably need to by another or a bigger amp, and you might need to upgrade the speakers if you don't like how the vocals sound, unless they're hooked up to your deck through the factory harnesses, in which case you may want to get those amped as well. well those are the cons, but i think they're outweighed by the pro, more bass

Double the power + double the speakers = +6db typically...that's the pro!
More money for equipment, more space taken up, no better sq, won't make her any wetter...that's the cons!

You will indeed have bass overload and the front end speakers are going to struggle to keep up with the bass response. Adding a scond set of identical subs is also going to take up alot of real estate in the trunk due to the box. If you have the room that is one thing but if you do not and the weight alone is another thing, then this is the wrong route to go down. I would upgrade into a pair of darn good 12" subs and the right box if this were the situation.

i already have my speakers running through a 4 channel bridgeable pioneer premium amp and my subs are running on a mono 1800 watt peak kenwood. i found an enclosure design that conserves some space in the trunk. i just want a little more umph out of the subs i've had them for a year and am just bored of them but i dont want to discard them and buy brand new 12's and just have the old ones lying around. i already have a pair of 12 inch Phoenix Gold Octane R's that i use as a coffee table haha... if i upgraded my speakers from type s to like alpine type r's or like some Hertz speakers or something would that keep up with 4 10's bass?

All else being equal...two 12's are equivalent to three 10's in terms of air displacement. What really makes a huge difference is the enclosure design!

If you want to go into some damn fine speakers, Morel is where the smart man looks. Morel Loudspeakers for more info.

To add to the cons, you will not only have front speakers struggling to keep up, but you will also have more bass drag due to various time delay as now you have four subs, and all four will have different distance to your ears.
