2003 Cavalier Z24 Questions
#1
Ok I just bought a new 2003 Cavalier Z24 car. It came with the "premium amplified sound". Does anyone know what that entails?. Where is the amp and what are it's ratings?
Also I found another thread on this, but I just got confused. If I want to put my Panasonic MP3/WMA deck in and not lose any of the features etc (i.e door chimes, etc) what all has to be done? I'm planing on getting it installed as It looks like a huge pain in the *** to do.
I read about extra wiring kits etc, and relocation kits etc being needed....
I want to make sure it's done right and properly the first time. I understand that this is an expensive deck install but what can you do...
Thanks in advance for any advice/help you can give me.
Also does anyone know if it is a problem putting a security/remote starter in this car?
Thanks,
oglsmm

No sure on the amp rating. The amp however is located in the drivers side rear 1/4 of the trunk. IF you pull the carpet back you will be able to have access to it.
As far as changing the deck you will need either a relocation harness metra 70-2002T with a sp2003 speaker to keepo your door chime. You could also use a piece from Venture or PAC with doesn't require you to relocate your radio.
You will also need a mount and antena adaptor as well.
The deck installs range from $150 - $200
With security and remote start it is straight forward in that car. You will need a integration piece how ever for you factory anti theft if you are adding a remote start.

As for the other things Venture or PAC.... what are they, and do they interfere with the warranty?

You don't need the relocation harness, I have had mine head unit now installed about 3 months, took it to the dealership and everything is fine, granted yes you do loose your chimes but who cares.... 180$ adapter or whatever it is , is a huge waste of money.... I wouldn't waste my time/money with it plus it will look real stupid having a radio in your back trunk, my install was 15$ for the adapter plate, and like 10$ for the antenna adapter.... soo 35$ to put my radio in...

i have talked to Metra regarding this same install and as for not needing the retention harness or the ventura kit I would not recomend doing the install with out those peices , cuz GM does not indicate if the air bag will work upon impact and I know of a 2002-2003 Escalade that didn't use that harness , and the vehical didn't turn off.., yo indicated that you have the premium sound system , that tells me that you have the higher model so you have the power windows and the door locks etc... so they may get messed up if you don't use the right peices.., I have done a few 2003 Z24's so If you have further questions Please call me 416-994-4237 L8r ADAM

Here is what you will need for the deck, with the max price in brackets).
1. Dash Kit ($25)
2. Antenna Adapter ($15)
3. GM Class 2 databus relocation harness ($70)
4. Labour ($75)
So at the most it should cost $185, but you might find it cheaper.
For the security you won't need anything special. For remote start you will need to bypass the passlock security system that comes factory which should cost no more than $80 with parts and labour.
