3 alpine type r's

hi i'm thinking of getting alpine type r subwoofers 12 inches. I was thinking of getting 3 . Has anyone had 3, if so is it any good? Would there be a huge gain from 2 to 3? Its going to be put into a ported box. Any suggestions on how many to get. 1 more question what would be better to go with 3 alpine type Rs or 3 Audiobahn AW1205Q's. They can be seen here. http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=13533
Thanks

If you are gonna spend that kinda $ on subs, get some FI.SSD's or Fi.Q's.

There are also MANY other better subs then the type x's IMO!

Or the new BL line . Type r's are good subs, but the gain going from 2 to 3 won't be that huge. You would be better to redesign your box, switch subs, switch amps, or a little from all 3. Also, 3 subs would give you one weird ohm load.

3 is for the most part a odd number to work with, both in the forms of overall box size and finding the right amp for the combined load. What is your goal with the sub system, loud, good sound or a combination of both?

I would stick with two 12's for simplicity, and more importantly work on building a box that will let the subs get loud. Whether Type R's or Type X's are what you want really comes down to whether or not you want to spend extra money for the higher end woofer. I'm personally not a fan of Audiobahn, but if the price works for you, go for it. While some may frown on Alpine because of their high popularity and apparent stigma, they're still a very good sub, and you do get your money's worth.

In my view, a third sub is only going to cost more money and more trunk space at the cost of little gain.
