Question 6X9's with a punch??

Hello,

I have a ‘05 Mini Cooper S with the OEM Harmon Kardon stereo system. I honestly love the way it sounds. I like it so much that I’m not thinking about replicating this quality in my ’97 Eclipse Spyder. The Eclipse comes with 6 speaker locations. 2 tweeters up in the dash. 2 5 ¼ in the front doors and 2 6X9s in the rear side panels. To start with, I’m looking for a pair of 6X9s that give a good punch. Since the car is a convertible putting a sub in the trunk is not an option due to the limited space. I want to keep using only the stock locations for aftermarket speakers. I’d be running these 6X9s off an amp so powering them isn’t an issue.
Any thoughts on what I should get?

Good speakers and a proper amp to power them. A convertable needs power to help overcome wind and road noise. Top end dissappears really quick in these cars when the top is down. A small sub can indeed be done if you choose the correct sub. A single Digital Designs 8" or event the Pioneer Premiere shallow mount 10" both take a super small box and it will bring the response to life in your car. To task a 6x9" to make incredible amounts of bass response in the factory location is actually quite difficult. Look into that trunk again and see what kind of room you can give up for a sub. The 10" Pioneer for example is just over 2" deep and the box for it is not much larger than the cardboard box it comes in. Great speakers, look at Morel. Small amplifiers, Pioneer Premiere has super small amplifiers ideally suited to your car. Low heat output and great tonal response with a good amount of power. Cd players, Eclipse has some incredible units to choose from, Pioneer is no slouch either.

Give these a try for your rear speakers, they are 6x9 subs. You would need to get some beefy components for the front with lots of power but, you can have the best of both worlds, good sound and subs.

Parts Express:Tang Band W69-1436 6"x9" Neo Subwoofer

Plus, they are on sale!
