Adding an Amp with Factory HU and one other question

here is a thread in which this was previosly disscused:

Some say yes some say no...others decide to have a pissing match.
And you said the guy recomended mounting the amp to the seat-yet that is close to being mounted upside down (when the seat is up).
Do what ever makes you feel the most comfortable.

I second the AudioControl suggestion. I added a sub to the factory BMW E46 HU which has balanced differential "Line" level outs. In my case, since it was only a sub I was adding, a 2XS crossover was all that was needed to interface flawlessly to the OEM Cassette/CD Changer. All current AudioControl components have the same flexible inputs. 2XS crossovers are cheap too, especially for a component that will probably last you 10 or 20 years or more.
The 2XS also "tapped" into the rear outs, still allowing the signal to go through to the rear factory amp perfectly clean. It is a great setup because the fader almost acts like a sub control.
Unfortunately, it worked so well that now I want to put in separates and another amp! D'oh!
