You can purchase a proper hi-lo level adaptor to integrate into the factory system, then choose an amplifier that has a remote level control that comes with it so that you can control the level of the sub indipendent from the main volume on the other speakers. The worst thing you want to be doing is messing with the bass control on the factory head unit to get more bass from the sub, that is a sure fire way to start blowing the smaller factory speakers.
If the vehicle did not come with the factory sub and the upgraded audio portion as standard equipment, I highly doubt the upgraded wiring is going to be there. Nothing that says you can't take it apart and find out though.

thanks for the reply you have a good point there i can get the adaptor to go high low but the amp being used is a old school nacamihi (sp?) 2 chanel amp its nice old amp but no high level in puts or remote inputs , we have after market speakers in the van but I think a new deck would now make this easyer, Ill see. thanks Nat
