I am running about 2000 watts (see signature) off of the stock alternator (130 amps max, 80 amps at idle) in my Mustang. The big 3 wire upgrades have been done and a Yellow Optima has replaced the stock battery. However, I am still taxing the current electrical system.

I am going to upgrade to a larger alternator, however, I am not sure how larger to go. Can someone provide some guidance on how many amps I will need.

Thanks to all.

I would go with an alternator that puts out the most at idle.

Dominick Iraggi has a discounted group buy for his alternators on another forum (SD)

Check out the Amputator series
max output 220 amps, idle output 175 amps
max output 240 amps, idle output 165 amps
The Amputator Series comes with a one year warranty, You can upgrade to
LifeTime for $99.00 minus the % discount
