Advice in head unit
Hi,
I'm getting a new vehicle, as well as inheriting my wifes ride.
I want to get to matching decks so that things are easy for her no matter what vehicle she is driving. Problem is, i haven't purchased a deck since my last exlipse deck which had to of been 5 years ago.
I'll be running an assortment of hardware in both vehicles. a few USA-140 amps, an Eclipse amp, a couple Kicker Comp Vr's, some rockford components etc.
Ive always been a fan of quality vs quantity. So im looking for something that sounds great, looks good, and provides the most features.
Any suggestions?

What features are u looking for? BT, iPod/USB, # of pre-outs. What price range? JVC decks provide good bang-for-the-buck. All models have a 24-bit DAC and anything with front or rear USB support iPod with no extra cables. Alpines are very nice (I have one in my car) but u gotta spend more to get the same features.

I had three pre outs on my Eclipse deck and they were all 5v. I prefer the 3 pre outs because i run 3 amps in one vehicle
I would really like USB,Bluetooth,Ipod contron like you said. I would say USBis a requirement.
I would also really like to have it support DVD
I was looking at the JVC units. they seem pretty solid as far as price and ratings. what seperates JVC and Alpine? ie why is it so much more expensive?

Do u want DVD support for music or video? Are u wanting to run a single DIN or double DIN? I sell both brands and probably sell JVC 2-1 over alpine. With Alpine maybe u pay partially for the name and history?
JVC's high end single DINs with BT also offer triple 5v preouts. I'll probably put a JVC in my other car. (Hopefully it'll be on the road soon) LOL, projects. If your looking for single DIN video they offer the AVX-77 and might still offer the AVX-44?

Ok. Revision 2. I thought about it. Im a computer guy. realistaclly, i will never use a cd or dvd again once i have usb/ipod support. So there really is no need. I also thought about it, and i really don't need 3 pre outs. I'm going to drop down to 2 ampls in the new setup.
What i do like, is a non fading pre out. can you get that with only 2 pre outs?
I was also taught that high voltage pre outs were very important, especially when running long cables (i run 20" RCA's). How important is this? would i even notice?
That being said, i am also buying 2 matching decks. so price will ultimately matter.
thoughts?

I use a mech-less HU and there's a few out there, but I like the Alpines. They have single and double din units. Nav is available on the DD.
U should have a non-fading sub preout with seperate control on just about any deck.
High voltage preouts allow u to run your amps gains lower, so your amps will run cooler.

I'm in a similar boat, up to three high voltage pre-outs, either double or single din, and with usb/ipod/bluetooth. Nothing too expensive but basically best bang for more buck. However, I'm not buying two decks, just one.
edit: whoops, sorry for reviving this..
