Advice on Head Unit shopping and install in an Altima

I used to be into car audio -- it's been a few years. My old system is in my basement, and I'd like to put most of it in my newer car, but possibly replace some of it. I don't have the model numbers with me (i'm at work),but hopefully this'll make sense.

Here's what I got right now:
Type R components for the front
Type R 6x9s for the rear
10" Boston Acoustic subs in the trunk.
RF 4 channel amp
MTX early 90s Blue Thunder 300.2
An old, 1997 Alpine head unit.
Alpine ERA G320 processor.

I'm planning on replacing the subs (was always dissapointed with them), and adding another pair of components (my Altima has a six speaker setup), 2 channel amp to power.

Reason for the post is that I'm wondering about replacing the HU and processor combo, and could really use some recommendations here; as this hasn't been a hobby of mine in some time and you guys are all more up on technological improvements etc. than I am.

1. I always liked Alpine's Head Units.
2. I definitly want a HU that will take a CD, and that can hook to the iPod.
3. I loved that ERA G320. I liked fiddling with the 14 band EQ. Before that unit, I had an 11 band that was alright. I also hung out with buddies that had smaller, 5 band EQs built into the HU, but those never really satisfied me. I liked to be able to isolate a more specific frequency and mess with it. But googling that model links to a youtube video that has labelled it "old school". And installing it 3x in various vehicles was always a pain (seperate unit, another fabrication).

So the questions:

1. Is there a HU that anyone can recommend that would essentially have what I need, and a lot of versatility in EQ band adjustment all in one unit?? I mean, I'm reading on some forums that today's 5 band EQs in some HUs will put my old 14 band ERA G320 to shame. But I really really like being able to hone in on one small area of the recording that I like/hate and minimize or enhance it.

2. I plan on doing the Big 3, sound deadening; anything else you'd recommend on an install in the Altima with the Bose system (obviously, I'm taking it out)

Hey, thanks in advance. I used to frequent this forum a lot and always found it helpful.

hey man welcome back! ha well there are a tonnn of units that should suffice for all your eq'ing needs. That all depends on your budget. i would suggest the pioneer 880 and or 800 prs units. 5v 11band eq great sound quality. alpine 117 or 887 the list goes on..

where abouts are you? im doing my 2005 altima 3.5 soon like within a week or 2 and id be nice to have another altima to install with lol

if you like Alpine then the cda 117 has most of the features you want: 24 bit dac, direct digital ipod input, cd player, 7 band graphic or 5 band parametric eq, high pass x over for front and rear outputs, sub out, time alignment, remote control and it's imprint ready as well as ai net for adding outboard processors if you want more control (your era g320 will work with this unit as well...if you wanted to hook it up).

Thanks guys - appreciated! don't know if I'd be ready this weekend, just want to amass what I need for now (deadener, wiring, new subs, components, HU, amp) and then I'll get to it in the summer.
