Anyone ever think that maybe the reason that you might see a lot more sony going defective than some brands is based on sales volume?
Id love to see there defective to sales ratio.
people on this forum talk about how great some other brands are and how reliable and terrific they are( i.e E.D, Brahma, shiva, what ever the flavour is)
Wonder how many woofers other companies sell in comparison to sony? (Sony must be doing something right, it sells!! and a hell of a lot more volume then any of the prefered brands on this forum )
Install it properly and it should work fine.

Slow/n\low is right. Sony markets their products to no end and they get the results. Therefore one may seem to notice a higher failure rate. I can't say it's entirely fault of the product. Pointing out what Dukk said, even though it's a well known company, it has its limits.
Sony is a good bang for the buck, if a sub dies, it's not the end of the world to buy another one.
Any sub will miss notes and flop badly if its in the wrong box.

I sent it like 180 RMS from a JBL 180.2 and the thing missed notes and bottomed out all the time, meanwhile Sony claimed to have at 800 Peak, and 400 RMS rating on their sub. The gains were set properly, no bass boost or anything, no clipped signal. Just pure crap. If you are looking to buy something in the Sony price range, look into Pioneer.

Further to what 'slow/n\low said...
When people used to ask how much RF we had returned for repair I used to tell them easily twice as much RF came back than everything else.. But I then added that we DID sell about 8-10x more of it then all the rest combined too so in that respect it was pretty good

Sony used to have some really great stuff like the C90, C910 etc. (Mobile ES), but now their stuff is junk compared to most brands. Its true that a lot of it is in the install, with properly designed enclosures, you can get some pretty impressive SPL numbers. Bottom line is that you get what you pay for in most cases. Sony stuff costs next to nothing today.

CD Player:$180 a year ago
8 Track Player:Free
MTX RT2200X for fronts(refurb):$150 a year ago
2-12" Kicker Impulse subs(used):$60(with box)
US Accoustics 2200(used):$200
Misc.wiring,plugs,etc:ballpark of $50
So if the more expensive stuff is better, how come I am beating at least a 1/3 of the people in my class?
I may not place, but I do walk away most of the time pretty close to the placers...
Just my thoughts......

Just my thoughts...... </font>
I think what orion_95 is trying to get at, will all things being equal (proper box, tuning, position, power, etc) most of the time the one that's 10x the price will win. But unfortionatly most of the time products aren't placed in the proper box, and the installs aren't always the greatest..
