Is it true that you can only use either the Highpass or the Lowpass seperately and not at the same time? (on front and rear) because I went to a shop today and we couldn't get the headunit to do both. It was like you could only use the highpass OR the Lowpass but not at the same time.

dude!! avoid pioneer. no offence if anyone here is a rep for them or anything, but my new sales guy just went from a premier pioneer to an alpine unit, and running DECK power to stock speakers, the difference in clarity was un freaking believeable!! The Eclipse sounds awesome to, but once you use and alpine with the digital time correction, you'll never use another deck again!!!
Do you think the difference was just the amp in the Alpine was stronger and had cleaner output, or was it the crossover/eq/time-alignment features that made the most difference. Did he find the sub preout strong enough compared to the Pioneer? </font>
hey, i'm that sales guy marty was talking about and yeah id have to say that the internal amps on the alpine beat the crap outta the premier, and the sub also played alot clearer with the alpine. things sounded muddy with the premier. the 9835 is definatley a nice deck i ran it in my car for a while the quick search feautre kicks ***, the xovers and the time correction definatley makes a huge difference on the alpine i'd for sure recomend going with it.

Thanks man, I listened to the 9833 for quite a while today, sweet deck! Might have to go that route for sure.

I'm sure that little weak RCA voltage issue was limited to that deck, just the one....MAYBE the 7894 itself. It just sounds fishy as I never had an issue with signal voltage before in Alpine units.

I have seen countless posts on many different car audio forums complaining of weak sub outs on some alpines over the past couple of years. The most detailed testing I saw was on the 7897(a guy tested 2 of them and posted his test results on elitecaraudio). The bottom line on that deck was this: max sub pre out voltage was 3.5V...not bad for a 4V rated deck. However, the issue was, at max volume before the front/rear pre outs clipped very hard, the sub out voltage was 1.7V. There were 2 points of view:

1) Not very impressive for a company of Alpine's stature

2) Who cares, just turn up the gains(which would be easier to take if you weren't paying big bucks for the alpine rated at 4V)

The guy who did the review did love the deck, regardless of that, but he did buy a linedriver for it. I pasted the test results because many were reading about the test and not really understanding what the results were(or they were attaching those results to some other model).

Some people seem to think the 04 alpines have been improved(many were anxious to test them out after seeing many complaints) in that regard which would be good news for people who want to buy an alpine. I haven't seen any complaints on the '04 alpine pre outs on the forums.

Thanks for all of the info, Perry, very helpful post once again! Let's see if they have improved for '04.

Just bought a 9833 tonight. It'll do anything I want and I can't wait to get it installed. Got a good deal to.
