I don't think that it was in my head, because I turned down the sub level a few notches. I had another set of those Monster RCA's before that had problems, maybe they are cheaply made, unlike the 201xln's. Whatever the case I am loving the three way setup, I have the tweets high-passed at 4 khz 24db/oct. , and I am running the mids up to about the same point for the cutoff. Is there any benefit for overlapping the mids so that they play up around 5-6khz?

Its unlikely. I believe the factory set point in those passives is 18db/octive at 3500hz. So youre probably pretty close to the sweet spot there.
