Ok so my Alpine 9886 will not charger my newer style Ipod..It's a PITA..

There are 2 solutions to this..

Now, my question is: do I need the Alpine KCX or will the Ebay replica do?

I would like to believe that the insides of both look the same..I do not know if the parts are of the same quality..

which model ipod are you trying to charge. my 9886 when i had it would charge any style of ipod, and even iphone's (never tried the 4th one though)

 

I had the 9886 also and used it with an Ipod Mini, And it would charge.

 

scoche or griffin or someone that makes ipod accessories also makes one of these, I know i have seen it on clearance at walmart for like $10, I would have a look. The issue your having is up to a couple years ago apple supported charging through firewire witch was 12V now they only accept 5V from usb. All these devices are are a voltage divider to get the voltage down to 5V.

 

it will only charge ipods upto 2008, wont charge ipod touch or newer. read the manual.

 

1st and 2nd gen ipod touch worked on my deck whenever my buddy plugged it in. i do remember him haven't to enable is ipod to be used as a disc device. you can do it somewhere in the itunes options i believe

 

I have a 2010 model Ipod touch..I had a older nano (around a 07-08 model)..The nano charged up just fine but the newer touch will not on my 9886..I was very suprised when it died..
