I'm running the 7998 and I must say that it's the best damn deck I've ever owned.

I was wondering for a time whether the 7998 would match the SQ of the old school 7949 I have. Anyone have a first hand experience?

Primarily they have been my brand of choice. I have had no reliability problems. They just get hot on me.

I know of one guy that has a 7998 and it manages to work just fine powering 5 amps off the remote turn on! No relay used!

Yeah i was thikning about getting one of the 7897, 7998 Hu's...only thing really is the high price on them. Even used or ebay they're still really expensive, I haven't seen deals on any either, which is why I was thinking it might be a better decision to look into the 7995/9815.
The 7995 also has a very attractive price on it right now, new and used.

im disappointed with alpine. my alpine alarm is not working partly now and my alpine deck from last year is messed up AGAIn.. after replacing the face plate twice on it and ive only owned it for less than 2 months. it also heats up to the point where i cant touch the sound **** without my finger getting burned..

alpine .. yay or nay? i still havent decided. i may just have bad luck.

^ I think that could be the way it's wired up, but maybe not. You must take long trips or something. Mine get hot, but never hot enough to burn you when you touch the vol ****.

^^ x2 my 7894 has NEVER gotten that hot, even on 5 1/2 hour road trips. Must be a problem with the deck/wiring, I would think.

I know for a fact (met & spoke to Alpine's Western Canada Rep) that Alpine laser runs hotter because they've got it cranked up higher thatn a lot of other decks, mine runs hot as well, I've discovered that if I run the deck in blackout mode it's fine even in the heat of the summer.

A "cranked up laser" causing things to be this much more hot? This sounds really interesting...
