broke the woofer in for 9 hours with 20 volts at 22hz, loaded it into a 1.3 cubic ft box, net 1.1, , using a phoenix gold x600.1 amp wired for 2 ohms. analysis, very linear at low volume, surprized me alot, excelent deep bass extension without the massive mechanical noise typically associated with abuse of this nature. doesnt have the attack i would like but to be expected with a really heavy cone, you will need lots of power for this woofer. using tracy chapmans telling stories cd, has a lot of stand up bass that is really difficult to sound good without losing detail, the type x was very good at reproducing the sound the way it was intended, not muddy and undetailed, the sound was full and accurate with a real sense of the resonance of the insturment, quite incredible, as for its spl capabilities, im not sure but the initial listening session was very good, a easy woofer to listen to with the least mechanical noise ive ever heard, less than my reference woofer, a avi sl300, when i get a chance to listen more i will post results

Sounds like a good report so far. Let us know what your further listenings have to offer.
Did you also get the type x components in? If so, have you done any listening on them? I am really interested if they will stand up to all the hype they have generated about them.

this thing is brutally inneficient, needs power, lots of it, 83 db efficient with a really heavy cone. the cone is a carbon fibre, aluminum and kevlar reinforced pulp, bizarre combination, the surround is rolled, the back of the cone is reinforced with plactic braces coming off the former and attaching to the back of the cone near the surround, no type x components yet, waiting for the 6.5" components for a job sitting in the bay, have had a chance to listen to it more and quite like it, great extension where most woofers lose complete control and unload. very capable of playing some complex music without sounding strained
