Am I getting a good deal?
Thanks for all the replies!
I'm in vancouver, I visited the AB sound located on kingsway near station square.
I kind of figured I could get the stuff for cheaper... but like I said, I'm just getting into the car audio stuff.
As I was talking to the salesmen, they insisted that if I wanted good stuff, JL is the way to go.. So I had them put together a system using JL components.
At first I was shocked at the price but he demonstrated several setups with different amp/sub combos and even to my untrained ears, there was a clear difference in sound. He told me to stay away from sony...
So I guess, what I need now, is a set of attainable price ranges for this equipment as it seems the prices i'm being quoted are somewhat high. Are there online sources for this? (aside from the obvoius ebay...) sources for both new and used equipment? If thats the case, I will source the equipment myself (with your guys help of course!) and get them to install it.
Finally, I forgot to mention, that there is also the 3 year warranty thrown into that price... Do I need such a warranty for an amp? I mean.. it has no moving parts and will be bolted down! I should also mention, I would definately be up to installing this stuff myself, but had no resources... Now that i'm here.. lol

Be aware that is is extremely easy to make one setup sound significantly superior to another. And yes it is done all the time..
As for what you are buying - good gear a little high on price. Change gear and you can get similar results for well under a grand.
A warranty is a good idea but be aware that nothing is ever 'thrown in'..

Two JL 10W0's can be picked up around $150 each from A&B Sound. Build a 2.5 cubic foot ported box, you will be in business. Look at the Crossfire BMF1000D amp for sale here: http://www.canadiancaraudio.com/cgi/...c;f=2;t=003426 . For under $700 you will have a killer setup. Pick up some wiring, you will be good to go. P.S. I am in Vancouver also, and am selling some 20' EFX RCA cables, very nice, if you are interested.....

I stopped into AB sound the other day, and got a quote for:
JL 250/1 amp (about 549)
JL W3v2 12" sub (about 349)
rca cables (by the looks of them.. they're good... 50 bucks )
power kit (90 bucks)
installation (100)
box (200 i think..)
He didn't give me the quote paper but a reference number so the prices listed above are coming from my head.
The quote including taxes is about 1469 dollars.
What I want to know is: Is this a good price? Is it within a range that could be considered a good price???
I never imagined it would have cost so much to get a subwoofer into a car!
The car in qeustion is a 2000 grand cherokee w/ the infinity sound system. I know next to nothing about the car audio scene (but I am electronically, and mechanically minded).
Thanks for any input.

Someone here can probably build u a box for cheaper than that too but shippingz another question. And doin the install urself is a lot cheaper. $100 is steep I only ran into one place that charged that much the rest was like $50-$60. I heard stuff in BC is expensive tho?

Not sure If it has been mentioned as I am a lazy bastard and don't feel like going through all the **** pplz got to say but
When you purchase a compelte system from a store they should include the RCA's for free , especially since cost on a $ 50 ,- set is often much less . Either that or keep workin' em and pay for the set(s) .
njoy
