To amp or not to amp... thats my question :]

Hi all...

Am I underpowering these speakers? They are Fusion Powerplant 5x7 2way, can handle 50wrms. The HU is only putting 22wrms. Should i bother with a 2 chan for them?

Mo better..

Heck ya.
If you provide those speakers with a small 30W/ch amp, it'll bring them to life. You'll notice improved bass resolution, fuller bodied mid-range, and the top end will not be as harsh when you turn it up a notch or 5.

Amplified speakers and deck speakers are night and day.

A 15w rms amp will outperform a 22w rms deck any day...
Here are some "22 w rms x4" amps in today's decks...

about 5% THD.... which is pretty chet.... so definately, get an amp.

Before you go and spend money getting an amp for them, where are they located in the car? Yes everyone who has posted is right, they will sound far better powered with even a small amplifier. But if your using them as rear fill then you might be better off getting some more power up front. If they are up front, then yes, get an amplifier!

Personal preference on rear speakers, I happen to like rear speakers and if it were my car, I would have changed them. There is a great deal on the Infinity Ref7541A amp right now, this would be a ideal amp to power the front speakers and a future subwoofer. Interested, drop me a line.

I have a friend with the exact same car, he’s got fosgate 6x8's in the doors all around powered by a kicker kx 700.5 amp, & two 10" infinity 1030 subs I haven’t had a chance to listen to it yet but I will this weekend. But definitely get some power to those speakers.
I also like rear fill in my ride, but the zx3 has the rear speakers in the doors, I’m skeptical about how they are going to sound/how much you will hear even upgraded and powered with the amp, well see(hear) tho!

There are no rear doors in the ZX3 hehe. I faded them out a bit because for my taste they felt like a distraction from the new front speakers. Maybe im weird i guess.
