Amp/Sub Question Guys
New truck, well new to me anyways means new audio.I have a new Alpine set up all still in the box.My question is this MRP 2000 the right amp for the 2 12' Type R 2 ohm subs?.Should I have the 4 ohm version?

you have the dual 2ohm version? if so, then 2 of them will give you a final load of 2ohms (2ohm + 2 ohm=4ohm (series) x 2 subs = 2 ohms (parallel), which will work well with the Alpine 2000 watt @ 2ohm amp. It's a bit more power than needed, but those subs can take a lot and extra power is never a bad thing in the right hands.

i had just one of those subs running off 900 rms and it was insane i always thought the window on my hatch back was gonna blow out so two subs on double the power will just blow your mind! just make sure you put them in a good box

When you guys mention "a good box" give me some examples of what would be considered good.Lots of instalers here in Winnipeg claiming to make their own boxes but it must take a bit more than access to Home Depot to make a good box. What is a good prefab box? These subs are going to be sitting on the back seat of my 500hp Ford F350 Super Duty.Don't have the cash for custom set up at the momment and don't want to mount shallow subs under seats so just a straight forward box sitting on the seat is the plan. With the 6.0 liter diesle and dual batteries and an alternator the size of a bull moose I'm sure I will not have any issues electrical wise. When I first was setting this system up I was going with a JL Audio W7 13' in a custom box but that got to rich for my working man's budget.

Depends on what you want, and how much space you want to give up. louder, deeper bass can be had with a 4cubic foot net internal box (2 cubes/sub after port and subwoofer displacement) tuned around 30-32hz with 50-60 square inches of port about 36" long and with a 2nd order subsonic filter set at 25 hz. If space is more limited, then a 3 cube net box with 30 square inches of port by 21" long will tune the box to 33-34 hz (Alpine recommended design), and use the same subsonic filter as above. Both of these box designs will get bloody loud, with the larger box being louder below 35hz. If you don't listen to too much ultra low bass music then the smaller one is actually louder above 35hz, and still has plenty of deep bass output. I've built both and actually prefer the smaller one for my typical music choice. The large box does more shaking and creates more rattling, the smaller one is more musical in my opinion.

so basically alpine recommends 1-2 cuft per sub so you will be looking for a box thats 2-4 cuft tuned to anywhere between 30-40 hz most people go with around 35hz, so as mentioned above get a box thats about 3-4 cuft and tuned around 35 hz and youll be good to go, just dont go to wal mart and buy a sealed box made of 1/2 inch mdf, youll want something built from 3/4 mdf with bracing inside and usually the board the subs are screwed to is twice as thick, youll be running some serious pressure so if you put it into a thin cheap box it will flex and vibrate to
