i just got my first system kinda installed, its in, but now i'm fine tuning it (haven't touched the doors yet) on to the "problem"

my amp is a coustic 600se, it does 150x2@4ohm/300x2@2ohm/600x1@4ohm(mono)

the subs are 2-12" infinity reference 1220w 4ohm, so from the intial install i've got them taking 150w, they sound nice.. but i'm thinking if i wired them parallel, that would bring it down to 2ohm, so i could feed them 300w instead of 150w.. that would be alright?

i'm running 4awg for power from the battery, but unsure what gauge i should be using from my amp to subs. any help for a newbie would be much appreciated.

 

I'm assuming the subs are single voice coils. You could wire them into a 2 ohm load, but you'd have to put them onto one channel of the amp, rather than bridge it since the amp isn't stable with 2 ohms mono. Doing this will still have the subs getting 150w each. I'd keep it the way you have it.

Regular 12 gauge speaker wire should be fine between the amp and subs.

sorry if I'm abit confused, but you're saying to wire them in parallel to one channel of the amp wouldn't do me any good, right?

naa.. they will still get 150 each (or possibly less)... Although you could then use the extra channels for some 6x9s or something...


You could try bridging the amp down to 2ohms... but you risk damaging the amp...

Id probably look for something a little bigger that will operate at 2ohm.... if you found a real 600 watt amp (as in 600RMS) I dont think you would be dissapointed.....

 

looks like i'll be keeping it as is.. another amp might be a solution, although as i said above, i'm happy with how it sounds.. but i can already feel the addiction setting in, what type of amp would i be looking into if i decided to upgrade? i also heard a pair of JL 10w0's at a local pawn shop that absolutely blew me away.

 

JBLs 600 watt class D mono block would work... can probably be had for less then $250 used....
