any places comparable to the states

Hey guys, I am looking at getting some gear very soon. I was wondering is there any places that sells stereo equipment that is comparable to the states.
I have been looking at some websites and they are easily half the price compared to us. I have about 1400$ to spend and I can get much nicer equipment for less.
Or should I just bite the bullet and get the gear up here at home.
I especially hate this since our dollar is pretty much 1 to 1.

dude, support your local retailers. Talk to Rob at forbidden out on the west coast. He is one of the vendors on this forum. There are also other good reputable vendors on this forum as well. Keep it canadian.

Correction, I used to be a vendor on the forum and have now closed my store. (I bought a business in the Calgary area). Thanks for the props though, appreciate it.

I would go to some of the local shops and tell them the situation. Say that you were planning on going online and that you would buy from them if they cut you a good deal. If they start giving you the "you don't get warranty blah blah blah" speech just leave.

if you are installing it yourself, just buy where it is the cheepest. If you need a shop to instal it then buy the stuff at the store.

and every shop I am sure is very aware of the online competition.

by the way sonicelectronix is a great place to buy online.
