Any suggestions on UpGrade?
Any suggestions on UpGrade?
I bought my 98 Jetta a few months ago and it came with a nice system! The install has a raised shelf at the back of the trunk and a Fiberglass Dual 10 Inch sub Enclosure on each side. All of the equipment is from 1998 and is in need of an upgrade.
Currently running
Panasonic Head unit
4x 10" Kaption Pro subs
Sound stream Rubicon 302 Amp powering subs
Jvc 6.5's in doors and rear deck.
Sound stream Rubicon Lil' Wonder amp powering speakers
1 farad cap
An equalizer I cant remember the name of
Scosche wiring all round'

So far I think I want to use
Kendwood KFC-XW1022D subs
Jl TR650-CSi Components up front
Jl TR650-CXi Coaxials in the rear
Suggestions, comments?\

I will be blunt and honest. This gear you speak of from 98 is some sweet stuff, and a great looking set up as well. Very clean install and great looking enclosures. As for my thoughts. Kendwood KFC-XW1022D's are nice subs thats for sure, a good choice there, personally I would go Image Dynamics, but $$$$ is always a factor. RMS on those Kenwoods are 5ooWper, (250 per coil). Are you keeping the same amp? Or an upgrade on that as well. I would recomend getting a couple of new amps for power.
Im just trying to see what your image is, are you changing the entire system, or your just doing minor upgrades rather than an all around overhaul. And ya I would change all your JVC speakers, they are ok, but if your upgrading, than the JL's will do nicely. Or you can look into Boston Acoustics or Image Dynamics for components and co-ax speakers. But then again it all depends on the $$$$ you want to put out. Also remember, go with what sounds best to your ears and your personal tastes in music.

all i would do is upgrade the speakers and put new subs that handles the same power. and keep the amps. maybe upgrade the deck too. but thats just me. looks good tho for an old setup. still clean for 10years lol
Iam looking to upgrade everything using the same setup (enclosures and amp stand)
I was looking at the Rockford Fosgate T8004: 800 watt 4 channel amp, opinions
Im looking for the best setup that I can do on a reasonable budget ($2000 - 2500 area)
Also everything except the Eq is for sale! Pm if interested

post it on the classifieds section. thats where ppl look. as of suggestions, i couldnt help you that much on that since i dont have that much experience with brands. so far i owned clarion. audiopipe. sony, PG, DD, massive audio.
clarion amps were solid but subs were weak, audiopipe subs sux ***** ( i find ), PG have great stuff for cheap, DD are kick *** and expensive lol, massive audio is also kinda expensive but deliver quite a punch and has great quality

you can do rather well for that amount of money, if you are just looking at replacing the subs/amps then you shouldn't have any problem, get good middle of the road subs and then 2000 watts RMS or so to power them theres alot for you to choose from in that price range, personal id stay away from kenwood subs, but personal opinion is just that, nothing more.
First you need to figure out how much airspace is in the boxes, then you can start looking around for subs that perform well in that area.

HxLxD or if its fully custum fiberglass and odly shaped inside. well get a 6x6x6 box and fill it wil packing foam or anything small really. peanuts even. a full box of that will give you .5cubic ft. then fill the boxes as many times as possible into the fiberglass box. if you have 5 1/2 of that .5cubic ft. box you have 2.5 cubic ft inside the fiberglass box.
hope its clear enough to understand lol
