Kaption is a CDN company. I'm not sure where their stuff is made but it's sold under the "audio video" banner. Their stuff used to be sold in my town and some of it is pretty nice stuff. I think American made stuff is more expensive because of labour rate but is def made to higher standards. Most company's offer more high end equipment so at least you get what u pay for. Easier to be price competitive with off shore production.

I'd still rather run an amp with good specs than one with 20 damping factor and 10% thd. If numbers were so fudge you'd figure all amps in a company's Lineup would have crazy high numbers. There's def ways to fudge it like listing thd at 1 watt or at 1 frequency vs. 20hz to 20khz. But not all amps are created equal. Period. usually, unless it's a complete bs company, you'd figure that some merit would be behind their numbers. Maybe those numbers are more effective to compare 1 company's amps to each other.

The funny thing is the company specifying a damping factor of 20 is likely the legitimate one telling the truth...

Some specs are useful, most of them are not.

I have a Kaption single 12 sub in a ported Kaption box, few years old, but still sounds great. Am swapping it out for...

a new Image Dynamics IDQ10 V3 DVC 4ohm sub I bought new awhile ago, in a 0.97cu ft sealed box....

my question is if my choice of amps (I already have Audison SRX1, 3, and 4) is suitable. Either the SRX1 or 3....??? please.

Thanks in advance.

Well to simplfy this argument of specs. I would like to say that numbers are less important than the brand of amp. I mean there is low quality and there is high quality. High quality tends to have better numbers whether it matters or not. The build quality is what matters imo and the numbers are a bonus.

It looks like the 2 amps make similar power. Srx1 makes 350rms@2 ohms at 13.8v. The third channel of the srx3 makes 350rms@2 ohms at 14.4v. I couldn't pull up their website so I'm quoting unknown sources. Depends what you're doing for the rest of the system.

I'd run main sub and front woofers off The 3 ch and front components off the 2 ch. Just one guys opinion. Or you could use srx1 to run sub, run front subs mono off the third channel of srx3, which would leave you four channels to run an active front stage, or front and rear speakers.

Thanks, I appreciate.
So Audison amp would be okay with IDQ sub...

I will use SRX3 for sub and tweeters (Morel MDT-29).
And SRX4 for 4 door speakers (Alpine Type R).

Regards.

I agree that the brand of amp can be a good indicator of the overall build quality. I disagree that "better" amps will have "better" numbers though. Often a lower brand amp will overspec their products to try to fool people into thinking they are quality. A high quality brand should not need to resort to such tactics.

The sub is a dual 4 ohm vc. Wired in parallel it will be a great match for that amp. The amp puts out more power than suggested for the sub. But as long as it's tuned right you should be good to go. It should sound great

The best way to choose an amp is listen. Take all factors I to account(speakers, placement, power, etc.) Listen to as many setups/brands as you can and chose the one you like tonally and price rangeally. Different amps def all have different qualities. Some guys lime tube amps which, in general, have a warm, coloured sound. And others are too precise and clinical. I would try not to buy strictly on numbers. but obviously that cannot always be possible.

Thanks a lot friend!

I can't wait to try it out. I read that the silicone caulking in the new box must dry thoroughly (fumes bad for sub) so I am waiting...it's been 3 days (but I also resinned the outside of the MDF box)....so, another few days and I will wire it up!

The sub came with some foam tape sealant. I also bought some black thick gooey stuff to seal it against the baffle....

http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=269-300

Is there anything better to make the best seal?

Having lots of fun with this stuff!

Regards
