Basic Bluetooth
I'm lookign to solve a couple of problems w/ my '05 Matrix daily driver. The stock headunit sound sucks, and the only solution for an Ipod connection with it is an FM solution. I'm also using a visor mounted bluetooth, so I'm looking at replacing the headunit with one that will allow me to run a USB connection to my Ipod, and integrate a better Bluetooth connection for my phone. I'm not looking to spend much here- just basic/solid. I'm leaning toward a Pioneer DEH-7300BT so I can avoid an add on bluetooth module. ANyone have input to share- pro or con?

Its a good deck, could also look at stuff such as Clarions CZ501. If Ipod and bluetooth connections are you're main concern i say you should be fine with the pioneer DEH-7300bt, Stop by a local shop and see if they have one on demo. I will say though if sound is something you are looking to improve you should consider new speakers.

Can an integrated mic in the headunit really deliver decent sound quality to whoever I'm talking to on the other end of the phone, or should I opt for an added mic positioned closer to me? I really hate it when somebody calls me on a speaker phone that makes them sound like they're in a tin can.

I have never personally used one such as that however i know of 3 people who had them put in there vehicles and all 3 of them came back to swap them out with the exact same problems/issues. They claimed the mic was just not good enough to pick up there voice clearly enough, making it very difficult for the person on the other end to hear and understand them.
If you're concerned about such issues going straight for something that has an external mic may be a good idea as it could potentially save you time swapping devices later on.
