I'm running an Xtant 1001d with a 1 farad cap to a S12L7 in a 2.5^ vented enclosure. For reggae and hip hop its great but when I get into my beloved dance music the bass seems to fall behind. If I turn the music down then the bass usually keeps up with the music. When it's pounding though, the sub making the bass beat certainly lags behind.

The Kicker is the older black model and it certainly has a couple of years of pounding in its resume. Is it possible that the sub is to blame or could it be my amp?

My deck has a setting for my subwoofer non fading output. The setting is called 'non-fading phase' and it can be set to either 'normal' or 'reverse'. I'm assuming you're suggesting I set this to 'reverse' as it is currently set to 'normal'. Is this what you're talking about?

I don't mean to bash kicker's product, it's a great one, just not really meant for anything else than reggae and hip hop. I got 2 of those (black cones) in about 1 cu. ft. sealed each and IMHO it just doesn't sound good with anything else than rap-style music. These subs are meant to get loud, but you need some good dedicated midbass drivers to back 'em up, which most people aren't willing to do.

My .02

EDIT: And YES, I DID try them vented; 3.2 @ 32

To reverse the polarity on the sub, if you have an alpine deck, jut press the volume know to "Sub-W" then presss the left or right BUTTON . You will see "Rev" OR "Nor" put .
Try the different setups.

Yeah its a Kenwood Excelon deck Rob but thanks for the input anyways.

I was thinking the same thing as Audio Freak for a while too. The sub loves really low Reggae bass lines and deep hip hop beats. I do have to agree with Chris and DWVW though. Solo Barics are used under very diverse applications and it's doubtfull that the sub's response would be only manufactured for rap and reggae music.

I'm going out to try reversing the polarity. I also think there's an option to reverse the polarity through my amp so I'll try both through the deck and the amp.
