personnaly when doing the big 3 i wouldnt recomend taking all stock wiring out cause if something goes wrong somewhere theres no backup soo if you leave the stock wiring hooked up plus the added big 3 it would be a fail safe system

-batt to chassis
-eng to - chassis
+alt to +batt
you had it right the bigger the gauge the better so screw the 4 gauge and go with 0 and you can get plain copper connectors anywhere for it like canadian tire home hardware ..... and a better battery would do nice

from where did you take the voltage??? at the batt or the amp??? cause if you read 9 volts receiving at the amp it could just be bad wiring ( half burnt or to small)

So your saying I should get an O or U type connector and put it between the battery terminal and the connector for the rest of the car electronics? I'm not sure if the stock connector would stay on.

Also, what does the terminal on the alt and engine look like? Is it some sort of screw/clamp? (Probably not, that would be to easy :P ) I'm trying to think of how I could connect wire to it.

A while back I was getting some alternator noise on my system. I bought a filter for the power and it fixed it. However, now that I've added a sub/amp it has came back (not as loud though) Do you think the big 3 would get rid of this?

Thanks for all the help.

It was at the amp for the sub. This was also when the car was off. I did solder the power wires instead of using a terminal block. But the solder job looked fine. (oh boy did it need a lot of heat) For the neg, I used a terminal block.

ok
1. on the alt its a bolt and use the O type connectors and as of grounds look for bolts that are around the chassis and the engine ( you will see some ) clean them all with a dremel or sanding paper
2. since you get 9volt engine off at the amp im thinking your wiring is to small or theres something wrong somewhere check voltage at the battery itself and let us know what it is
3. soldering power wires together adds resistance and could be the cause of the voltage drop
4. the alt noise could be cause of bad RCA's or that you didnt do a deck chassis ground to chassis of vehicle ( witch does work well to reduce noise)

2. I'll have to check that out.

3. Yeah. I guess I'll just get a terminal block. I was trying to save money.

4. My RCA's should be fine. Their twisted, and shielded. In my old thread we talked about the grounding of the deck and its good. The solution was a power filter, which worked perfectly. But for some reason with the new amp/sub its came back. I'm thinking its my solder job.

Looks like I'm off to ebay for a terminal block.

go to a hock shop if there is one around you they might have some laying around ( they are 15$ new at wally world ) also maybe adding a bigger power wire to the deck might help.. im gonna see if it makes a difference tomorow if it doesnt rain lol

but really if you are still having alt noise and your rca are good and the deck regrounded maybe its your amps grounds and ya the power wire doesnt help at this time lol
