battery dead ?

Just wondering what you guys think, I have just 1 amp- WAVELENGTH power 400, 600wrms @ 4 ohms powering 1 PG x-max sub. 4awg from bat to amp, gains are not at max.
I also have a new alternater. I have not done the big 3.
Now when driving it's loud this is good, but when I come to a stop light or what not, the bass gets alot quieter this is probably the battery?
Can I have 2 batteries, 1 in the trunk and the stock 1 and just run the 4 awg wire to the 2nd battery in the trunk and then to the amp??

Sounds like the new alternator does not work very whell at low rpm. Did you just get a factory replacement? Re-wind? or an actual HO alt? Call up the company you got the alt from to see if it will work safely and reliably if you put a smaller pulley on, don't do it without approval from the manufacturer, they know how their products handle different speeds, if you go to small of a pulley you can unwind your alt at high rpm, thats not good.

a lot fo the time, manufacturers rate the Alt at a certain RPM, and not at idle, so if it says it puts out 200 amps for example, that might be at 2500+, and at idle it may only put out 70 amps for example...
I'd start there, to find out exactly what you audio system is getting at a stoplight.
