Come to think of it, that z24 had a custom built box that had a baffle that covered the whole opening where the rear seats would rest. he had an enclosure with a divider with 2 -12" rockford fosgate subs, with the ports firing up towards the roof. Sounded really good. Not only sounded good, but looked good.

 

I agree and tests in my old camry confirmed it. I did frequency sweeps for many different configurations and these were the best (flattest and loudest). I wasn't able to test the sealed-off trunk scenario.

Also, the low end in my car was improved by about 10dB with a front window cracked a few inches, no matter where the box was and which way it was facing. Just my experience.

 

I noticed the same thing with my camaro. If i had the drivers and passenger window down about an inch, it improved the bass in the car.

 

the "best" place for a sub, is in the front between the front stage. not that it should be actually placed there, but thats where it should "sound" like it is. so wherever the sub blends into the front speakers the best, ie. u cant tell its in the trunk, is the best place for it. IMO

 

In my Sunfire it was best when the box was at the back, sub forward, seats down, the port was to the side.

 

I've been told subs against the seat facing the rear of the trunk can give u as much as a 3 db gain as oppossed to facing them forward.
