Best way to tune amp/deck settings?
#1
Me and my friend did my install on friday, I'm just wondering what is the best way to get all the settings right? I have a 2-channel Clarion amp for my subs, and a 4-channel Kenwood amp for my speakers, and a Panasonic deck. I think what I have it as now, is I turned the deck settings all the way down, and just have the amp settings up, but I'm not sure if this is the way for getting the best sound from my system.

Set your bass/treble/loudness on the deck to flat (0). Turn your gains on both amps to minimum. Play some music that has some good range of highs and lows, and is recorded well. Turn the deck volume to 3/4 of the maximum, then turn up the gain on the Kenwood until you hear distortion, then back it off a bit. Set the crossovers by ear, if the speakers are being highpassed, run the crossover down until the speakers sound a bit stressed from the bass, then turn the crossover back up a bit to give them some protection. Then repeat the process with the sub amp, listen to the subs and try not to tweak the bass boost on the amp too high. Just make sure that the bass sounds fairly tight, and that the subs are not distorting noticeably. Hope this helps a bit.
