hi. was wondering, when doing the big 3 wire upgrade is it ok to use 8 guage or is that not much help at all? must the wires be 4guage and up? the reason is, im trying to find a battery post clamp (especially on the positive post)
that can accomidate all the power wires i have running. i mean i have the original car harness, plus 2 - 4guage lenths running to my hatchback. i seen some clamps like this:

http://www.tsunamionline.com/product.php?id=32

that has 2-4gu/2-8gu input holes. so i could put my 2 4 guage lenths on one section and the 8 guage can be for the big 3. would that work??
thx!

If you're doing it in the firstplace you might as well do it full bore.
I would be using 4g or larger. Personally I use 1/0g.

8 would be too small to even help the ol' dimming light problemo. Minimum 4awg.

ok thx guys! i guess its 4 guage or 1 guage. but i beleive on the big3 set up, you must run at one wire to each positive and negative post. is that correct? is there a clamp out there that can accomidate all my wires?? the car harness, 2 - 4 guages for amps and another 1 or 4 guage for the big3 (this being on the positive terminal post)

thx!

I agree with dukk...

Although its probably a good idea to check the other alt/batt/frame connections to make sure everything is clean and secure when you do 'THE BIG ONE'....

In reality the factory connections get corroded and gunked up pretty quickly. Change all three to ensure proper clean connections and to ensure you are using the factory charging system to its full potential.
Since you are changing the wires you might as well use a decent guage incase you decide to up the power and go with a bigger alt down the road.
I'll say again - Do it once and be done with it.

4 guage is usually enough as most distances will be short enough for most current draws.

So my 1/0 is overkill?
