If there is no actual audio event then it should not be AudioThunder.
A bunch of tuners with street systems trying to out profile each other does nothing for the audio industry.
Again - this is a CAR AUDIO board. If you want high5s and slaps on the ***, go announce this on a Tuner board.

I can't speak for the show promoter, but this is my interpretation of the situation.
The show is called Performance World. This is one of the premiere custom car and hot rod shows in Ontario. There are several subsets to this event - AudioThunder, Sport Compact Challenge, Truckerama and Raceway Alley. These subsidiary venues exist to provide some variety to showgoers and hopefully bring 'new' people to the show.
AudioThunder has long been one of the premiere autosound competitions in the area, if not all of Canada. However, in my involvement for the past decade, I have seen a steady and definitive downward spiral in terms of attendance at the audio competition portions of the event.
Please remember, I am not speaking for the promoter here - just my overview...
Given the cost and time required to organize and effect the audio competition portion of the event, and the dwindling participation, these events were deleted as they became less profitable - or an expense.
It's quite expensive to co-ordinate, pay, feed and potentially lodge a fleet of SQ judges for an entire weekend. You also need to consider the cost of renting the hall space to hold these events.
I am sure the promoter never wanted to eliminate any portion of the audio competition - BUT - You gotta do what you gotta do.
Now - re: Funkmaster Flex. Most of you guys are not looking at the big picture - Zach hit the nail on the head - it will draw more into the 'aftermarket car stuff' scene. That is the purpose of holding an event like this. Is the average highschool or college kid going to get excited about hearing that 40 cars are going to be listened to by 10 judges, or that 80 cars are going to make noises so loud it can only be measured by custom electronic hardware - or - that several TV stations are going to be at a car show the following weekend where a guy who has a nationally televsion TV show about custom cars is going to be - and he's bringing some friends, probably some cool rides, and is going to attract some serious attention?
Most of you guys need to step back and look at events like this from a bigger picture. If you want something audio specific - go to the Spring Break Nationals, dB Drag finals or IASCA finals. These events are car shows - not stereo shows.
I'll agree to the AudioThunder name thing - perhaps it's time to retire that - but there is recognition attached to it - even if it's for cars with stereos (or Audiopipe subs as it was put) and not a sound-off
The promoter has been quite open to comments or suggestions for ways to bring the car audio competitors back. To this date, I don't know of anyone who has come up with anything that would work financially.
If you have an idea though, let me know and I'll pass it along.

Edit: an 'audiothunder 07' thread should be started... maybe a few of us hardcore CCA nutts have what it takes to get this thing going again... ?????

Although I do understand your disappointment in the lack SQ or spl but thats due to lack of competitiors simply put. SQ and SPL werent cancelled that they couldnt handle, it was quite the opposite.
To have an indoor show like AT the venue isnt cheap. If the folks at Performance World are going to commit to renting the space from the international center, hiring the judges, buying the trophies so that 100 + competitors can show off their cars and only 30 or so show up (and most of them register the last possible day) then it's a an unsucessful event.
Was the judging bad, were the trophies ugly, could the building be building dustier than some of the fields I've seen car shows at? I don't think so IMHO. There was just a lack of competitors to make a show in a venue like the International Centre successful.
Call him what you want but Funkmaster Flex is a huge car and car audio fan and supporter. I don't know about you but when was the last time you saw other shows like "Everyone Loves Raymond" do anything to bring awareness for the industry we love like, Overhaulin, Rides, Unique Whips and Ride with Funkmaster Flex. A few years ago there was no car audio exposure on mainstream TV.
As an enthusiast and member of the industry I'm extremely excited to have a name like Flex associated with this show. Especially since he's a big JL fan! I wish advertising on the radio and newspaper that someone iconic in car audio like "Fishman" or "Dave Mackinnon"
was coming would be as equally enticing to the general public but it's not. (sorry Dave)
If you're that disappointed about no SPL and SQ find 100 of your closest friends/competitors and get them to call Performance World with their credit cards in hand ready to register today and I guarantee that they'll be an SQ/SPL event in March.

how sad, they have to bring in some washed up hip hop legend to attract a crowd. they should bring in local Toronto rappers from Regent Park, Rex and Jane & Finch. They could show off their corolas and bus passes.
