Bikini's and Car Audio
DB Drag = Great
DB Drag + Bikini Contest = ?????
.
. .
There is no real answer for this question. Bikini Contests and Events are becoming more and more common. If I need some buddies to press down on my windows and trunk, etc they won't come(the ones that don't do car audio) but if I tell them they get to see hot(sometimes) girls wearing bikini's they are all for it. It doesn't even make a difference that they have girlfriends, they are still allowed to look. So if you hate the idea, fine; remember what Chris Rock said,
"the people who you hate the most are going to end up in your family." - From Bigger and Blacker.

the reality is guys, that for the shop who's holding the event, they need to draw people in to pay for everything they do for you. trophies aren't free, staff aren't free, food aint free, lets face it, nothing comes free. even though i agree that there really isn't a place for these contests at a 12v comp, the people who pay for all of the things we get at these comps are the guys who buy stuff from the shop that normally wouldn't come in just to see us burp unfortunately. the retailer needs a draw and until someone comes up with a better way bring people in, these types of events will predominate because we all know that guys think with the wrong one to often, and if they think that the hot chick in the bikini will like them if they have a stereo........guess what, they are going to buy one. bootm line
I have no interest in seeing a bikini contest at a show and certainly less interest in a mag. I know my wife wouldn't appreciate it either. I was picked to be a judge in a contest at a show in Edmonton in 97. It was fun but I was 22 and I've had a few years to grow up
I would prefer if they left the skin shows to the import shows (scratch that, seeing scrawny Asian hoochies is gross too) or the beaches.

As I said earlier people hearing the stereos are the ones who are going to buy them, a girl showing of her ***** (if they are even real at all) is not going to make people buy stereos. Remember these girls are their to make money for themselves they could give a rats *** about the little boys drueling over them.
No the trophies aren't free, the competitors entry fee pays for them AND the girls prizes.
If my buddies don't buy stereos or what not, they are going to go there and spend money on entry fees, um food and all sorts of other things, so they are promoting the sport as well.
I know what ppl are try to say. I wouldn't want tatas all over the place if I had kids. I also know lots of little kids are around at these events, but why not make the events with Bikini Contests over 18????? If you are under 18 you are not legal to see **** anyways, why should you get to see some just because you are into car audio?

Well, in Toronto, women are allowed to be topless, wether they are in a bikini contest or not, thats the law, so kiddies, sorry, (not that you ever see a topless girl walking around here
) So if it happens in the GTA there's not much parents can do except cover the young ones eyes. I think if you had bikini girls in the shops selling every day, that guys, would deffinatly buy way, way more gear for their systems, and thats the truth

I'm going into my 4th year of sociology at Laurier in Waterloo and I'd like to throw in my 2 cents here.
The auto sound industry is a superficial pursuit in itself. Men work to out-perform other men in the interest of competition. The man who presents the biggest, badest sound is claimed victor and aquires status above the other men. In respect to a more macroscopic picture, men in competition fall under the conventional, hegemonic model of north american masculinity. Here, men exist in a hierarchy and their relation to other men is based upon competition. Therefore, in this case, the competition is rooted in the man who makes the loudest boom.
Now this mode of existence is problematic in itself. As men find their relation to one another in competition, men's intimacy is not acquired out of emotion, but the very competition which is inherent in their games. As men learn to access intimacy through competition, men become alienated from their emotions and selves. Therefore, men who are exposed to masculinized competition exist in an ontology where intimacy may only be accessed through aggressive struggle. In short, it is the man who conquers all who gets to aquire intimacy. All other men achieve only alienation.
Now with this problem illuminated, we must consider the other pole; that being women. Women access their intimacy through emotional contact with other women and men. Thus women are presented as stable and concrete. The problem exists in men's relation to women. As men learn to acquire intimacy through competition, it is the conquering of women which provides a doorway into intimacy for men.
Under the model expressed, it is found that the bikini contests within car audio shows are very functional for the masculine gender. Only one man may win, but as men are allowed to objectify and oppress women by making them take their clothes off; all of the male loosers still exist higher in the hierarchy than all the participants of the bikini contest. Thus all the men at the contest are permittied higher status above the women because the men present themselves as conquering the women as the women are disrobed at the males' command.
Therefore I find bikini contests at car audio contests to be problematic because quite simply, they are oppressive to women. Ultimately, a paradox is found. If men give up bikini contests, then all of the loosers in the contest must deal with their alienation from intimacy. If the bikini contests are kept, then women continue to be subject to masculine dominance.
Again, this is my 2 cents; not to trivialize my argument, but in the interest of democracy, everyone is allowed their opinion.
Cheers.
