Building my first system

I just recently bought my first car(2005 honda civic lx coupe) and have been looking around on what would be the best car audio system for me. I already have an Alpine head unit installed and 4 decent speakers so what I need is a mono amp and subs.

I listen to Alt rock and Hip hop. I heard 10's would be better for rock for SQ and 12's for Hip hop for better SPL. I want something that would be the best for both types of music.

I'm not looking to replace my battery or alternator right now, I may in the future when I get more knowledge in car audio. I heard anything over 1000w rms would require these being upgraded?

What would you recommend as a system for me? Money isn't that much of an issue but I'd like the best value possible.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

run a 6 channel amp to all speakers... use two 10 glassed into the rear corners of the car, mount the amp on the rear shelf where the two 6 inch speakers are right now... then due 6.5 in kicks with 3 inch and tweeters in the a pillars off of passives... simple cheap and will kill at sq.. also upgrade alternater and battery.. go to teamshadowspl.com for those two parts.. ask for robert...

Thanks for the reply. I already have upgraded speakers with tweeters. I just want good subs and amp for now. 2 10's would be my best bet you think? What brand would be best?

100 depends on budget. What sort of trunk space are you willing to sacrifice for the box? Do you have a amp on the other speakers or is the cd player running them all? If no amp is on them, you may want to consider a small 4 channel amp in order to help balance out the sound. The much smaller speakers need to be able to keep up with the bass response. If you are not trying to knock the ears off your head with bass, there are lots of good options for you.

I don't want to sacrifice too much, I still need to fit my snowboard in the back for the winter. The speakers are running off of my HU (Alpine CDA-9886).

ok so you need something realy small to be able to fit a snowboard in the trunk(normally your not riding alone so you might have 2 or 3 in the trunk i guess)and we need the budget to figure...just an amp can cost up to 10 times a complete system...even more...it just realy depends on what your bank account is up to...i guess you can do something good with 400 bucks...if you look good you may foun things as crazy as a JBL P1022 for 89$ a 500W RMS kenwood amp for 200$ you just have to look...

Yeah I'm thinking a single 10 like a Jl 10w7 with a 5001v2 amp. I've heard good things about that setup. Anyone have any experience with it or know of something better?

Thanks everyone for your help. I picked up a BNIB Type R 10" for 140 and a MRP-m500 for 250. I need to get a wiring kit and build a box now.
