i would have to agree with Matt on the overbearing opinions, I would have to say that $200 for a dual 10 sledghammer is an awseome deal, with the right power (mtx6001) those subs should and will kick the sh#@ out of most single subs out there, but for the price of the sledghamer and a good amp to power it nothing will come close.!!! Just my 2 cents

These subs aren't THAT bad are they? For $200??? They sound pretty good to me for what they are and what they're worth... So what do you think I should do, try to trade 'em in for a credit towards something else? One 15"? It costs so much for something decent here. I want two of something perferably. There are two used 15" Planet Audio subs at one dealer for $150 each. What would one of those sound like? It looks like this... http://www.electronicexpress.com/images/products/large/6090.jpg I think it is the same one? P115 the model is it says.

But then I need a box...
I would return them, if you can, or sell them. Like, they will be bass, but there are a lot of other better options you can pursue

Don't get the Planet Audios unless you want pure bass. If you want bass that is loud AND punchy from a 15", you need to get something from elemental designs, Resonant Engineering (out of your budget though), or Adire Audio

If you limit yourself to looking around locally, then yeah you are going to pay a lot more then you need to just for the convenience of going and picking it up in a nice box from a store. But if you take advantage of the classified section on this site, and the one on icixsound.com/vb/ then you will be able to score stuff for way less money and end up with a much better system in the long run

If you absolutely have to buy something in store, I would recommend Kicker Comp 12" subs. They are about the best deal going right now... If you spend a little extra cash, you can get a Comp CVR12" if they still make it and those are a great entry level sub. Also, Alpine Type Rs are very easy to find used since about 65% of systems run Alpine gear, and you can get them cheap. You could probably find them locally too, and they are Alpine's second from the top line sub. They also switched to a new design last year and while it would be a serious longshot, someone might be selling their demos or old model Type Rs for crazy cheap in store.

Here is what I would recommend for you ... all elemental subs have an oversized cone but still fit into boxes made for regular 12s. Call it the elemental advantage if you want.

brand new elemental designs 13Kv2 $165cad I believe
400 watts RMS
http://www.edesignaudio.com/edv2/product_info.php?cPath=21&products_id=31

and you can either get a brand new elemental NINe.2 (600 watts RMS) for $300 or look around used. the box, just get a prefab 12" sealed box from a store, go over the seams with silicone because usually those boxes leak a lot, and then wait 24 hours and install your sub into it. Do not ever get prefab ported boxes.

and voila you have a system much better, louder, and cleaner sounding then one you've got.

there we go.... i wasnt trying to bash the outa Troy tellin him he messed all up and has to start from scratch.... he got himself some subs that he likes and wants a amp, so like i was saying his best bet is to go for the used mtx, cheap and will work. Now sure talon or temp or wat not i personally would not got with 2 10's or even 1 12' id go for 2 12's and you do have good points but to tell a guy to go and sell the he has and get good stuff is just well i would say rude! now if you had said hey maybe u should try this instead or for your next setup you try this and this instead, well ya tthat would have been nice. and hell its his first car and system it doesnt have to be right amazing, he got subs and likes them, let him boom with them until he is used to the bass and wants more.

and about that stupid smart *** coment about a simple spelling error i made, well come on buddy everyone makes mistakes you dont have to go and pick every little mistake out just to try and make me sound like a dumb ***... its childish.

I can barely understand what you are saying. In this day and age I would count not being able to type as childish. I don't mean to be rude, but I do mean to be blunt.

Two subs looks sweet but thats about it. It costs more then twice as much to run two subs, you have half as much space available for each sub, you need a bigger amp, you place a bigger load on your charging system so you need to upgrade your battery or get the Big 3, and in the end you only get maybe 3 or 4 more decibels (and it takes a 10dB difference for the output to appear twice as loud), so its basically a massive extra expense for nothing

Even just consider box size and two subs is completely pointless. Build a spec ported box (porting a sub is good for 8-12dB extra) or one 12" sub and its probably about 2.4 cubic feet external volume... and then you either run a 4.8 cubic foot box (****ing huge) to get both of your subs in a spec ported box, or you run them sealed, and bam all the sudden your one ported 12" is louder.

Man, this makes things really difficult...

Would it be worth it to trade my subs in on something else?

What about one of these? (I think 199.99 at my local shop) (http://www.lightningaudio.com/products/product_details.asp?cat_id=2&series_id=19&family_i d=26&item_id=94707&locale=en_US

Or two of these? (They are 149.99 each at my local shop) http://www.lightningaudio.com/products/product_details.asp?cat_id=2&series_id=19&family_i d=26&item_id=94703&locale=en_US

I'm not sure what to do... How would 1 15" sound? I want the loudest I can get. And yeah, I think I'll have to buy locally, but used is STILL an option locally too, so...

I kind of like the idea of having two of something... 2 12's would be ideal I think.

Oh I can get a RF Punch HE 15" sub for 160 something, but I don't like 'em and they aren't that loud. Might have been the box it was in...

- definitely do not buy new, especially amps, since they don't really wear out

But it looks like you already wasted your money on subs. WHOOPS. Sell them as fast as you can, they are crappy, CRAPPY subs.

And then, instead of running two 10s, run ONE 12" sub. Two subs is absolutely pointless. 10" subs are especially pointless. If you have the space to run two 10s, why not one 12" or better yet one 15"? If you buy a good brand, the one 15 will be as loud as four of your 10s... It costs more then double for a small increase in volume. Run one 12" elemental designs in a custom eD box (they will even build it for you!) and get a small 300 watt amp, and you will bump way harder then you will with the cheap all the big audio companies put out and call entry level products
Wow, the is thick tonight.

Dude, forget pretty much all the drama that you have read and buy the MTX amp from Harin101. You cannot miss on it, it has warranty on it, see if he'll split the shipping charge with you. It should cost no more than about $20.00 to get to you. It is a good amp that will do the job.

Sure, trust a vendor's opinion when I recommend to avoid buying new stuff if your on a budget

I already said the MTX amp is good, for the price its great, do get it, run it with your two 10s you've got, but next time buy something online. And don't get lightning audio.

How something sounds in the demo wall has absolutely nothing to do with how it sounds in your car...
