Bunch of random questions and needed opinions...
Question 1
I just installed two 10" mtx subs in my my friends buick and I advised him to keep the stock head unit and use this thing that took the back rear speaker and sliced it into a rear speaker pos/neg wire and rca outputs. Now I don't know what voltage his head unit is doing so I am going to use a test tone to set his gains. What would be the most appropriate frequency to use?
Question 2 Never dealt with anything like this!?
An old dude in my town some how found out that I am big into car audio and he asked me to come check out his problem. He said that he kept his truck garaged but he left left it outside for a few weeks and this problem began:
The right front / right rear speakers always make a scratching noise like when you can't find a radio station that comes in. This noise exists with the volume off and does not get louder or quieter when turning the volume ***. I had no idea what to tell the guy exept to hook up a good working speaker and see if the noise persists and if it does he might need a new head unit or possibly some mice were chewing on the wires while the truck was outside. What do you guys think???
Opinions Needed
Some of you know that I am searching for a new car. My price range was just lowered to $4500 (us). I am looking for a good gas mileage car that is a manual and is great for spl. I have my eye on a ford probe but this is a different kind of hatchback compared to the crx that you guys suggested last time. Do you guys think a ford probe would be good for hitting high numbers?
Question 3
I have never heard of trucks competing in spl contests. Why not? I think it would be cool to have an extended cab s10 and fold up the back seats and have a giant box in there. Would this not work well for spl contests? (I just started thinking that folding up the seats or removing them might make me uneligable for street classes?)
Thank you very much

lol, ya but I can't find a nice deal on a civic hatchback. All of the ones for sale have new engines and I don't want to buy a car that had an engine thrown into it poorly. But I think I found the car I want. Nissan 300zx. If I get one I can have fun on the road to not only when I am competing.
Do NOT rip out the back seat... if you do then you'll be bumped in to a higher class for competitions.
Honestly... you can do fairly well with just about any hatch and a bit of work.
If it's going to be your daily driver then I'd concentrate more on getting a good, reliable, vehicle.

gosh it is sooo hard, i want so much with such little money. I added something else to the list of my needs, it has to be rear wheel drive. I think I would die if I switched to a front wheel drive car. So I need a rearwheel drive hatchback that has a manual tranny that gets great gas mileage and is less than around $5k. This is pretty crazy
^ Sounds like a 240SX. 300zx is sweet but for that kind of money I think you are buying a money pit.
My suggestion was also the newest Civic you could find for the $$ but past there, the Probe is a good reliable car overall (thanks Mazda) with a huge trunk. I also like the early 90s Daytona - there's a tonne of them for cheap parts and if you luck into a V6 or a turbo car (or an Iroc R/T ideally) they go like stink! Plus they have a big trunk area too.

?
300ZX and trunk space do not go hand in hand either. Want room for a system, the 300ZX is not the ideal way to go by any means. Same with a Dodge Stealth. They both pale in comparison for trunk room as compared to a 240sx.
