Buying audio online from the USA -- mistake?
#1
I found a great deal on a JL 10W6v2 subwoofer from an online merchant located the United States and got so excited that I bought it. Now I am having second thoughts since getting warranty coverage from the retailer, should it be necessary, will be a pain in the butt since it would involve sending the woofer back over the border. I think my purchase has adequate protection since the retailer sells through eBay, has a ton of positive feedbacks, and I used Paypal to pay. However, I am still concerned about whether I have made a big mistake.
How many of you have bought audio online from crutchfield.com, sounddomain.com, etronics.com, or even retailers selling on eBay? The prices cannot be beat (I paid $260US shipped for my woofer which is certainly a lot better than the $599CDN plus tax I would pay here) but in the long run, is it worth it? This is the way I look at it I take care of my gear and if somthing does happen I will have saved more then enough on the iem to justify paying for the repair myself or in mos cases when I buy off the net I can buy another one and still come out ahead of buying it in canada.

I just bought some drivers from a Canadian dealership... duties, shipping, warranty (we don’t need no stinking warranty) Yeah it is a roll of the dice, I had to send a freaking check (no international Credit cards), but it all turned out OK... good speakers, no warranty but do you really need one with a quality product? (Sometimes yes) But the bargain of the new century two super high quality drivers, new, with shipping and duties, for less than the cost of a single driver from the US distributor.
Hey that sounds like the Canadian prescription drug deals!

I bought my amp from sounddomain.com and did the beat the price deal. Got my amp for less half price! Definitely worth it in my opinion. Only thing is duty. when I went to pick up the amp at the post office I was hit with a 50 dollar duty fee. Even with the duty fee I still paid less than half of what I would have gotten it for here.

be prepared, I'd haggle on the price in canada.
