All sarcasm aside, what will most likely (well, I mean SHOULD) happen is if you call the Manufacturer they will most likely (if they don't distribute themselves) give you the name and number of the distributor in your area, then in turn, that distributor will ask where you are located and give you a few options of a retail outlet in your area where you can buy that gear.

You bought a coffee from a dealer in coffee, the coffee shop doesn’t own the manufacturing plant nor the plantations its grown on.

opps no sarcasm key on this key board..

It's been my experience that any manufacturer that sells direct to the public usually has a higher direct price than the price at retail outlets. IBM and Microsoft for example.

The reason a manufacturer develops a dealer network is they (the manufacturer) don't have to deal directly with the buyer. All warranty problems are taken care of by the dealer. Dealers spend money to advertise the product. Dealers are in effect paying the manufacturers for the privilege of selling the product. So if a manufacturer started selling direct after setting up dealers those dealers are going to be pissed.

That was a long winded way of saying, no, I doubt very much that Orion will sell direct to you and if they did it would cost more than buying it online or locally.

Some of the smaller guys if they don't have a dealer in the area, will sell you direct (they might say within X miles/KM for example).

To me, that isn't a bad deal especially if they don't authorize sales. They aren't stealing sales from anyone at that point except their competitors (which would be the only option a consumer would have at that point if they can't get what they truly want).

Then in that case, they may be wanting to call the nearest dealer and say that "Hey, I have an end user wanting to purchase some gear, here's their name and number, why not give them a call and see if you can sell to them and ship it to him".

Shipping from the nearest dealer is usually cheaper than shipping from the manufacturer. Plus the manufactuer keeps the dealers happy by helping them get sales, the customer is happy because they get their gear, and the manufactuer is still making the sale.

Actually no we don't. The industry is in a race to the bottom to see who can sell things the cheapest. The days of making lots of money are loooooong gone. If I wanted to make lots of money, I would be selling clothing or somehting else.
