Everyone says that caps don't work, but I beg to differ. My personal experience has shown me otherwise. It may be better to go with an alternator, or battery or bigger wires, but caps still work. In my case it was a 2000 watt system in my 2000 concord tsi that was causing the problem. The lights were dimming quite badly and the alternator option on those cars is quite an undertaking...350-400 for alternator and 3 hours labour to swap it, not to mention that the core is needed to do the build as the shop had none to work with. I decided to try the cap, I didn't think it would help, but i was wrong. Nothing else changed in the system except I added the cap...a 2 farad, low esr Rockford unit. Immediately, the dimming mostly dissappeared, and the subs seemed to sound tighter(this is hard to know for sure, but the dimming was definitely 90% gone). Only on extreme low bass and for extended bass tones do i notice any dimming at all. It may be a band aid, but it sure stopped the bleeding for me...and at 1/5 th the cost.

There are indeed times when a cap can work, definitely make the flow of current as efficient as possible by means of the BIG 3 (or 4 if required), then consider a cap. It is a easy install and can be demonstrated effectively if required.
Yes it is another device to be charged but it also reacts at a very quick rate.

I read all the articles on the subject that I could find, and most were negating the cap's effect, so i thought it would be useless as well, but I was very pleasantly surprised by the outcome. It might be another drain on the system, but i think that with music's dynamic nature, the cap has time to charge inbetween those peaks to be effective. I think if it was sine waves that we listened to, caps would be ineffective as they would be constantly charging. Anyway, like i said, the proof was in the performance, regardless of theory or arguments, as it was the only change in the system and it effectively alleviated the problem.

yeah for music I would say it works great but for tones and comes it is crap... when I play tones is the ONLY time I get clipping... I can blast any song at max and my system will be fine buy play a tone in the high 25s to the low 30's on my volume (which goes to 62) and I start to get clipping...
