Car audio complications

I have (2) 12" Kicker Comp subs in a factory ported box which I believe is 4 ohms with 1 pos and 1 neg from box to amp. and a kicker zx750.1 amp.

I was driving down the road with the music on and all the sudden there was no bass via subs but the sound was still playing but just through stock system. I checked the fuses first and all looked good. Second I checked the connections everywhere and they were all tight and the ground is to bare metal in my trunk. Third, I pulled the headunit to check that the RCA's were still connected and they were. Everything is wired properly but it just quit while listening to music one day. I can't seem to figure out what's wrong and I don't have a voltmeter to check each wire seperately. Any ideas on how to approach this? Thanks all

Sounds like your amp is giving you trouble. If everything is still playing but there's no bass, that's from the amp to the subs.
Almost sounds like it went into protect.

I've been running this setup for a couple of years with no problems until now. If it did go into protect mode, how do I get my system going again. It hasn't been working for 3 weeks now.

Take your subs out of the box and check the coils with a DMM. Could be a lot of things, you need to go through all of them to eliminate them as the problem, process of elimination is your friend. Good luck.

Easiest thing to do here is grab a 9 volt battery, take the speaker leads off of the amp and touch the + lead to the + of the 9 volt battery then take the - of the speaker lead and simply just tap it on the - of the 9volt battery . If the sybs are working they will move and you'll hear the sub pop. If you hear nothing then your subs are the fault.

I got out the multimeter and tested the +,- one the sub box and it was a hair over 2 ohms (good). After leaving the car running for a little I heard a faint clicking noise and the protection light on the amp was going on and off quickly every 15 seconds or so. I also have a capacitor which is staying charged around 12-14 V. Any other suggestions on what to do?

After testing everything with a multimeter, and have a spare old working sub box handy I found the problem. The problem is the speakers in the box. Hooked old box up to my current setup and she worked perfectly. One question I do have is: How do you get a reading on RCA cables though? I wasn't getting any reading at all on my RCA from head unit to AMP. Other then that, everything was reading good.

You test RCA cables through continuity.

So basically if your getting resistance at the head unit leads and amp leads for the RCA then that's how you know the cable is good?

What do you think is the problem with my sub speakers that there just doing nothing when another sub works with same setup?
