"I wonder if A/B sound or future shop provides any product training to their staff??"
I cannot comment on A&B but FS provides their sales staff with excellent technical and product information. Unfortunately they cannot control what the individual retains..

I'd say at least half of the salesmen at Futureshop that I've talked to have disappointed me with their lack of knowledge and none have really impressed me. Even the good ones sound like they're making stuff up every once in a while ... Maybe it's just Vancouver Island ...
Definitely check out Audiolines. The owner is a really friendly guy who gives really honest & helpful information, he doesn't just try to push a sale on you. Last time I checked, they were doing an M3 with Alpine F1, an E55 with F1, a Porshe with a CD700, I believe a Denon Z1 going into another vehicle & some other "budget" installs as well..
Don't let the caliber of the work intimidate you though, really down to earth guys there. Give them a shout: (604)421-1060. They'll be moving to the Metrotown area right after Halloween to a much bigger location.

I checked out Advance (Bby) today... It's like a 1-man shop.. but the fellow there seemed fairly knowledgeable and we talked about staging, imaging etc.. He's more like an enginner/technical specialist who could take the whole day talking about different possibilities and combinations etc... I appreciated his generous use of time and share of his expertise... My impression with the AudioLines fellow seemed to be fairly professional... and not pushy at all... I would like to hear more about other people's experience and comments ...Thks for sharing your experience..

Yeah, I've been to Advance before as well. Guy seems nice enough but I've asked him to find out something for me like 3 times & he never calls me back. I've showed up personally & called him as well but have yet to get a call back. I was looking into an IDMax at the time. Otherwise, you're totally right about him being more of a technical kinda guy. Not a lot of local guys build custom passives, only other place I can think of is Speaker City. Never was too impressed with the sales people there with the exception of maybe 1 of the guys there. He was a relative newbie though.

you DO know A&B staff are trained as they attend many of the same training sessions as FS staff.

FS takes a week teaching noobs theory and technical terms as well as product knowledge before you even hit the floor though. I got to skip that part when I used to sell
They do continuous in house training as well.
Of course when 99% of your customers want a pair of 12s and a 500watt amp off their factory system solely to rattle their brains most sales guys tend to forget about needing to retain anything technical.. Sad truth.
If you talk to Joe at Advance (the 1 man show over there), kinda take what he has to say with a grain of salt. He's quiet and "witholding" but he's got some 'interesting' ideas and theories on things to say the least.
Apparently he figures he can hear the difference in sound according to the materials of clothes people wear in the car.....
